GOTW? :(
News posted 1st March, 2009 by Rikus
So I was about 2 update this weeks gotw when I noticed a game that was about to win with 5 votes only had 2 comments on it. It took some digging and after asking lots of people who voted this week, it looked like everyone was placing votes without actually playing the game.

Some people voted for the best screenshot others cause the name looked cool, and why I thank everyone for being honest, I would prefer it that if you have not played a game then please do not vote. I cant monitor this every week, but otherwise the whole idea of having a gotw in the first place comes into play. I am trying to get the dc-arcade of the floor with club were you can instantly play a game using vitalize or java were your dc user account will track the high-scores and you can do all sorts of cool stuff, but thats still going to take a while. So for the next little while please vote for games you have downloaded, if you have not downloaded any of the games do not vote, it just does not make any sense to do so. Thanks guys!

For this weeks gotw, I have added the games from both last and this weeks so there is no winner today.

So... Which game got those 5 votes? :3

Thanks Rikus.

Can't wait for the DC arcade.

Posted by Otter 2nd March, 2009

I'm subject to this ;_;
I think I recall voting for Greg the Overenthuasiastic Potato just because I liked the name...

Posted by Cecilectomy 2nd March, 2009

i dont think i voted at all this week

poor kitty

'it looked like everyone was placing votes without actually playing the game.'

Wow I didn't expect that!

Posted by Jon Lambert 2nd March, 2009

I don't vote if I haven't played the games, and I don't vote if anything I've made is in the poll. Good idea Rikus.

And I am so excited for the DC arcade! Although, won't it eventually be called the CG arcade? Although, won't it eventually be called the CG arcade?

edit for spelling, then it busted itself up, then it busted itself up again

I voted EM 2. :3 I love that game.

Posted by [DELETED] 2nd March, 2009

I don't understand why people would even think about voting if they hadn't even downloaded the game.

Posted by Blue66 2nd March, 2009

This is madness!!

Posted by Xhunterko 2nd March, 2009

I have a little bet with myself. Since I can't see how many votes are tallied, I don't know whats winning. So I look at the Downloads tab and see whats hot and then check comments just to make sure. If I study correctly, I vote right. If not, then a random game gets bumped up.

I don't play klik games because the last ones that I've played were not very good. Granted that was a while ago, but still. I'll try to behave and not participate in the community so often.

glad things like this are being cracked down on. People voting without playing should be BANNED!!!!

You're new to the Daily Clique, right?

lol, it's been happening for years. I don't even bother to check, since most of the time it's between a poor game that's got lots of comments and downloads and a really good game that nobody notices. Obviously, the poor game had a better name.

Well.. at least we have more choice for this week's GOTW. Heh, I don't get people who don't vote when their game is on the list.. I mean it's pretty well accepted that if your game is there, you should vote for it. It was your hard work there after all

Posted by OMC 2nd March, 2009

I don't vote unless I've played all the entries as a rule. Which means I don't vote very often unless there's a slow week.

Posted by AndyUK 2nd March, 2009

I don't bother voting unless i have played all of the games in the current GOTW. Although in all honesty this means I rarely vote at all.

Posted by Johnny Look 2nd March, 2009

the gotw is supposed to be the best game of the week, elected by the tdc users, but the truth is in reality it doesn't work at all because to have a really fair system everybody should play the games competing with each other for the gotw, but that never happens, not to mention that there's quite a lot of people who vote based on the screenshots.
Also most of the time the winner is the game that spent the most time on the top of the frontpage, leaving the other games who didn't got frontpage no chance at all.

So to sum up, the gotw system is full of flaws and should be changed drastically.

My suggestion would be to have the gotw awarded by the admins or a group of reviewers.

I pity the FOO who awards GOTW!

Posted by OMC 2nd March, 2009

I think the system should stay the same. Every single system has its problems, and it's fun to give the members the vote.

You just have to expect it to be messed up. It's like whining toddlers who didn't get as many lollipops when the halloween candy was divided up. We're not talking life and death here.

Posted by RedEnchilada 3rd March, 2009

Yes we are *shot*

Posted by 3kliksphilip 3rd March, 2009

People who are well known in the community win GOTW by default over those who aren't.

Posted by Cecilectomy 3rd March, 2009

i beg to differ. many gotw are from people who have never even been here before, but submitted a game. there are also reasons why well known people win. its because theyre well known for MAKING GOOD GAMES.

so did adam!

Posted by OMC 3rd March, 2009

I tend to agree with Cecil. The proposition that well-known people win more than little-known and that that is necessarily wrong is garbage. It seems like something that would happen in a dysfunctional community, but it is quite the contrary upon observation in many instances...

I pity the FOO who claims false accusations!

GOTW: A debate that's been going on for 8 years.

'I pity the FOO who claims false accusations!'

*looks at the news post this is from*

8 years is too long. Lets settle this debate.

Shut up FOO!

False claim:
"People who are well known in the community win GOTW by default over those who aren't."

it is an obvious FACT that people well known can more easily win GOTW than those that are not.. OF COURSE they can! And when they do it is sometimes the case that their game is NOT the best in that week.

For a well known person to get GOTW their game must be about > or = to 50% goodness of the best 'non well known persons game' on the same list. So the non well known person has to make a really pro game ..and advertise it with loads of trailers and stuff to stand a chance, otherwise simply not enough people will even play his game in the first place and vote the other one gotw...

Oh look which game is winning gotw atm.. and look who its made by. Now play all the other games.

Posted by OMC 4th March, 2009

Yes, they can more easily win the GOTW's. So be well-known in the community. Vote on which you think is best and leave everyone alone! Improper GOTW voting is FAR FAR FAR less annoying than people who whine about it non-stop, and it is never going to stop. Not as long as human beings populate this earth will everything be fair.

Posted by 3kliksphilip 4th March, 2009

No but that shouldn't stop people standing up and trying to make the world a little bit fairer. In the long run it's better for everybody.

Posted by OMC 4th March, 2009

This is hardly the world. This is a little trophy icon and 30 seconds of fame.

Posted by Eternal Man [EE] 4th March, 2009

Right on!
And I still don't understand what 3kp and tom base their "FACTS" on, are either of you admins? Or mindreaders perhaps? Or arbitrary judges of quality and/or entertainment? Stop whining about everything and trying to portrait yourselves as some heroical warriors of ethics. Or more simply put, GROW UP!

Posted by Peblo 4th March, 2009

Haha, TDC is the neverland of the internet.

"it is an obvious FACT that people well known can more easily win GOTW than those that are not - - Oh look which game is winning gotw atm.. and look who its made by."

Well, I wouldn't consider myself "well-known" in the community. I don't know that many people around here, I don't participate in community events, post in the forums very often, write articles, comment projects... I just basically throw my games here for others to play. So what's the big deal.

3kp: ... *speechless from such a gut-churning insult*

Mr_T (!): You need to learn the difference between being immature and being theatrical.

Posted by 3kliksphilip 6th March, 2009

...and you need to know the difference between saying something amusing and saying something really old and repetitive.

Posted by Eternal Man [EE] 6th March, 2009

I only have one last thing to say to all you youngsters who diss a cultural icon like Mr T;

Shut up FOO!

Posted by 3kliksphilip 6th March, 2009

'all you youngsters who diss a cultural icon'

How full of yourself can you get?

Posted by Eternal Man [EE] 6th March, 2009

Ha ha! I really don't get you, you know that?
Do you even know who Mr T is?
Sounds like you don't.

*3kp hurries to wiki*

"C-course' I do!"

*realizes former posts make no sense*

With that resolved, should we stop this baw-waw now?
You and Mr_T(!)om get so riled up when I write stuff just because you two didn't win the Jeff Pwns argument waaaaay back. So the waste of space this discussion really is, only takes up place on this comment section. You and Tom wouldn't agree with me anyway even if you knew I was right since it's me, right?
Sooooooo, high road - low road?

eternal the mr t thing is getting kind of old/annoying

Hmpfh! Foo...

Posted by 3kliksphilip 8th March, 2009

Oh, so all this deliberate bullying you're causing is due to us opposing a very popular game, and you assume that the community will back you up now because of that?

You should be ashamed of yourself. This isn't school (at least, I hope that people want this site to be more mature than that), don't bother resorting to insults and immature, repetitive quotes when talking to people.

Posted by OMC 9th March, 2009

Everyone quit pointing fingers. We're all just trying to make everyone else sound stupid and/or horrible. Hypocritically, too, I might add. It's time to stop.

I've REALLY had enough.

3kp: What the h- are you talking about? If you perceive my replies to your comments as deliberate bullying because of JP then you are quite sadly mistaken.

I reply to your comments because I get bugged out by people talking about this place being a horrible and injuste place, cause it's NOT.

And about the T-thing. If someone who in my eyes only complain about the services given you (FREE OF CHARGE) tells me to stop doing something I sure as h- won't listen. BUT, if Rikus (THE PERSON PROVIDING A VERY NICE COMMUNITY FREE OF CHARGE) asks me to stop I sure as h- will.

Cause Rikus deserves that respect, and in my eyes you don't, you probably do though, what with you proclaiming idealism and altruism, but you haven't yet said or done anything HERE to convince me of that. In near every instance I've read your comments or replies to things they contain at least one sentence that bashes this community as a whole. For no reason that actually exists. IF the gotw was as broken as you say, then there would be reason to talk about it and fix it. But there isn't, you fail to actually prove elsewise.

And you should know, I don't resort to petty insults or the ilk in my arguments. I have very thought-through reasons for disagreeing with your claims.

I on my part have no problem with halting this now, though I won't stop replying to either false claims or weak attempts at trying to "shed light on my bullying ego", cause I don't have one.

So once again, are you able to stop discussing this now without more trash?

Posted by 3kliksphilip 13th March, 2009

Okay lets halt it

Posted by Eternal Man [EE] 14th March, 2009

Agreed.

Posted by 3kliksphilip 16th March, 2009
