Site State
News posted 19th February, 2006 by David Newton (DavidN)
The site's been having a few problems with its backup server recently. Hopefully the intermittent downtime has now been fixed, as über-admin Clubsoft has informed us that the server has now had its OS reinstalled and had some more RAM thrown at it. There are still two main issues:

The GOTW
Everyone's probably noticed the distinct lack of a GOTW this week. The update script certainly saw Shab coming, as it's completely failing to recognise that he's doing anything. Again, Club is working on getting the site back to the real server as soon as possible, so with any luck we'll get it sorted in a couple of days and work things out from there.

New Users
(Updated:) Club has now fixed the registration script, so new users should be able to register once more.

Additionally, my computer is refusing to boot up unassisted after an install of some ATI graphics software completely corrupted my system32 folder. It's times like these that Macs look almost appealing.

Grab yourself one of those Live Linux DVDs. They're brilliant for when Windows plays awkward. What about that System Restore thing? Doesn't that work?

Well he said he cannot boot, unless maybe safe mode would let him?

And I predicted the gotw would mess up under the hands of Shab

the beauty is there should be ATI drivers on the DVD already so if its only Windows thats affected then at least he could enter some flavour of Linux and tinker about.

I'm glad this stuff is found out, so it can be restored for a better TDC.

Yeah, a Live Linux CD/DVD is useful for situations like this. It doesn't install on the computer and they are often optimized to support most hardware.

My computer was going through some sort of electronic Groundhog Day, as it wouldn't work unless I system restored it to the 24th of January every time I turned it on.

It's now been improved to the state where it'll work if I always use Last Known Good Configuration. Why it still doesn't work the next time it's started up after that is a mystery.

Hey! It's really truly and honestly not my fault.

For once.

When is the search going to be fixed? Honestly these things can be fixed in a matter of days(I have my own server). Come on everyone, make donations if you want a better website, im tired of the google ads.

Right, search is back online, signups should work now too with a bit of luck. GOTW should be able to be updated now with another chunk of luck
