Hello. I'm currently making rpg and it's going very well. However, all of my levels are well over TGF's event editor limit, which is 65kb. My biggest level (a complex battle scene) is about 780kb.

I haven't had any real problems so far. As far as I know the game is working fine. But I have been told if you go over this limit your game will crash.

So my question is, should I worry about this? Should I continue working on my game as I have been? I don't see how anyone could make a Final Fantasy style rpg in TGF without going over this limit. Any helpful replies welcome.

Are you using 32bit TGF or 16bit TGF? I don't believe 32bit TGF has a limit, although knowing TGF it probably starts crashing somewhere. (maybe 1024kb or something)

Couldn't you split your levels up a bit more? Or maybe try to optimise your events (splicing duplicates, etc) so you don't need as many

Well, as far as I know the limit is placed on the editor per level, so spilting up the level isn't really a factor. The level in question is a rpg battle.. what I could do is a rpg battle. What I could do is make it so each hero or enemies turn is a different level. Pain in the butt, and the music (a midi) would keep starting over from level to level.

My battle system isn't just a Final Fantasy clone. It's very complex with overtones from Xenogears and Fallout2. I can't optimise the amount of events any lower.

While I was waiting for replies I got bored and started working on the game again. I had said before that I wasn't going to touch it again until I got some answers but...

Well now this level's event editor size is 890kb. Still no problems. If the limit is really 1024kb, like Kramy thinks it is, I might just make it by the skin of my teeth.

hmm, sounds tough. Yeah, I think the limit is 1024kb. I know it's the same solution that everyone suggests but getting MMF would probably solve all of your troubles at once

edit: I hope we get to see it... it sounds promising, and Fallout 2 is my favourite game of all time

If there is no problem, carry on .

I read somewhere that the limit applies to groups of events (dont know if this is true), but i always group different parts of the engines, just in case. The Riot 3 event list is only 40 some odd kb, how did you manage that?

Francois said the TGF event limit is 65k. That's the official word. So I don't know why it works when you go over 65k. He said 65k roughly equals 300 events.
Of course MMF has got rid of this limit...
and if your game starts crashing randomly or you can't paste events, it might be because you're over the limit.

I think the ability to go past the offical benchmark relies solely on the power of the PC it's being developed on. I'm at 1024 events and still going strong. So far the only issue I have come upon is a 10 second increase to level load time...22 second total. One thing I have found helps, is to map out what you actually want to put into the event editor. Put them into groups (on paper) and then enter them in outright into the editor without using groups. this should create no problems as you have already grouped them together on paper. I have found that the use of "groups" almost always ensures the death of my game after the 300 events mark. Just a thought.

TGF doesnt paste if you have even less than 1 kb of events if you have just saved, saving for some reason stops paste from working, just copy again and paste. I have gone over 65k many times, as i said i read it was 65k per group and in the list.

Just mind the events, not the total size, my levels are over 1024 kb, most of it is graphics data, i have about 120 events, so that's not the problem.

Just mind the 300 events like hagar said.
