it just seems like scaremongering to me. i very much doubt microsoft will be allowed to do this "palladium" thing, it infringes civil liberties, etc.

haha, i love that radsoft site. they're just scaring you into buying one of their products.

the fact is that anyone can attack microsoft. if apple held the monopoly and we were all using iMacs, apple would receive the same flack, i promise.

even if microsoft can monitor what programs i have running, or if i'm using a pirated version of their software... it really comes down to the ultimate question "so what?". so what if they know i'm using an illegal version of windows (which i'm not, for the record, at least on this PC)? they're not going to do anything. they can't send some police officers around to my house to arrest me. espescially not in my country. and as for that "self-help" thing, what bullshit. in the UK there's no WAY they could legally do that, i'm sure, in fact i'll check up on it tommorow. simply implausible.

the point is thus: these people are scaremongers. they want to scare you into their mindset. MMR jabs is an example that springs to mind. for those who don't know, MMR is a single injection given to toddlers to vaccinate against Measels, Mumps and Rubella. some kids who'd had the jab devoloped autism a few years ago, and the scaremongers pounced. there was no evidence to suggest MMR was a danger to kid's health, in fact, it was proven that without the jab the child had more chance of dying, at risk from those 3 illnesses. yet the scaremongers did their "job"... 15 years on, parents are still worried about MMR despite numerous tests putting it in the clear. for me, this demonstrates the influence of the few over the many (ignorant).

however, with microsoft, everyone has already had the proverbial jab. 90+% of home users use microsoft software. these scaremongers can't win, they will never stop such a vast proportion of people using the software. but they can damn well try, and this is what you can see in these links above.

conspiracies have plagued governments and organizations ever since the popular press started up, and perhaps even before then. look back over history, see how many conspiracies have been proven true, and then decide how likely it is that any of this microsoft stuff is true.

Haha AndyUK.

I read the article and it was some scary stuff. But come on. Do you REALLY believe this could be real? I DONT!

First of all. A lot of this would infringe civil rights. It simply would not be allowed. EU just fined Microsoft because they believe Microsoft Media Player destroys the market of other media players (like Real Player). NO WAY THEY WOULD NEVER EVER ALLOW THIS!

IF Microsoft/Intel would do something like this customers would flee. They would choose something else like a AMD computer with Linux or something. Or some other software company would sell an alternative to windows (where there is money to be made, there are products!).

Try to see this in a historical perspective. Microsoft was NOT the only one to make OS's in the 1980's. IBM had their OS/2 (a dos/windows like OS) and there where also a few other choices (dos like ... like pc-dos). How ever all the alternatives to windows lacked. IBM's OS's were only compatible with IBM stuff of course. The other OS's where similarly limited either in functionality or compatibility. That was what in the first place brought Microsoft ahead of its competitors. Microsoft did not kill the competitors, they killed themselves with inferior products.

A comment to Pete. I agree. It would not matter which company would have won the fight. If we all used Macs Apple would be flamed as much as Microsoft is today. It is popular to flame big companies. You are "cool" it seems if you dare talk bad about a big company. Oh, joy. What a courage!
Which OS you use is a religion just like the Intel/AMD and Nvidia/ATI wars. I bet most virus creators use Linux and write virus for Windows (you dont ruin your own religion).

"I bet most virus creators use Linux and write virus for Windows (you dont ruin your own religion)." - That do I beleve too. What dumbass would make a virus with windows? It already has an inbuild virus It crashes to often and run slow when you have to much stuff(the regestry is to blame there). Let us just pray that MS removes the Regestry and the "locked look", so we can don't worry about viruses so much. That would remove mostly of the viruses.
When I say "locked look", i mean: that MS Windows can do stuff in that background that you got absolutely no control over, and windows should be more editable. So peoples really can personal their OS.

you forget that not everyone who uses a computer is a computer geek like us. microsoft design their products for the average user, and the average user doesn't care what tasks are happening in the background, and doesn't want the ability to "personalize" their OS short of changing the desktop picture and internet homepage. if you, as a computer geek, demand that ability, microsoft are not obliged to cater for you, espescially considering Linux's availability.

Lets get something clear. There is a big difference between a bug and a virus.

Now Windows versions prior to Windows 2000 did seem too unstable. However Windows 2000 must be the most stable Windows version ever made. Windows Xp is also rather stable allthough the user interface (explorer.exe) sometimes causes error (it is rare but happens).

JonWoG: It was offensive in its lack of offence.

Microsoft are the biggest idiots ever just for thinking about Palladium. Although apparently it will explode if you pour water on it. (If you don't understand, go read a chemistry book or something)
