you cant use wav files as music in tgf, and secondly check in your windows sound settings that you haven't muted your midi playback controls.

Go to control panel, multimedia and make sure your midi is set to the actual hardware device not some rubbish synthesiser, that happened on my old PC.

Plug in your computer silly.

Then make sure its not the specific midi/wav messing up.

When I go play midi or wav, it shows every file, not just midis and wavs.

It might be that you midi mapper has gone out for a walk.

Try playing the midi tunes with another programe to check.
If they still don't work, you may have to reinstall your sound card drivers.

Windows uses a different Control Panel. Click "Speech, sound and sound devices" (or something) and then "Sound and audio devices" (or something). I Don't know how it's translated in English :S
