Garrett, I'm going to resist the strong urge to ridicule someone for asking such a broad question and merely tell you that, in the future, you should try to be more specific when asking for help. Thank you.
If you're new to klikking, then yes, the amount of options and things can be quite staggering. My advice for you is to read the instruction manual, and work with the Step Through Editor, to get a basic understanding of The Games Factory.
there are two types of object
Background and Active
Active object can be used for lots of things including your main character in a game
you can set their movement to platform, ball ,8 way movement.
backgrounds can be set to obstacle ladders or platform.
in the event editor you will see a grid it may look a bit complicated but its not really.
to start with (if you've made your character a platform)
set an event so when your character collides with a background. they stop.
and scrolling?
if the level is bigger than the window then you can make the game scroll by choosing
Always center window position relative to (your character)
To do something, insert an object onto the screen. Then, right-click on it for properties. Fool around with the properties and do whatever you like with it. For more fun, fool around with the Step-Through Editor.
I figured out how to use KNP back without no manual when I was in 4th grade. As an old KNP master once said, "Even a 3-year old can make something in KNP". Thus, I just recommend that you figure things out yourself. It took me almost a decade to be as good as I am and I've still got much to learn. TGF's as easy as KNP.
