Hello again, my delightful TDCers. I've been a bit inactive for a while, it's true, but that'll change next month. In the meantime, I've been coding something experimental in TGF.

Perhaps it's the slightly immense length of the event list so far, but my problem is this. I went back to the Level Editor at one point, and clicked on an object on the sidebar that I wanted to add in.

"Read error!"

Well, that had happened before, so I wasn't too worried - just the program being awkward, in my experience. To make sure, though, I clicked on another object, and the computer hit me over the head with this absolutely petrifying error message:

"Object structures newer versions. You should NOT save this game!"

Fortunately, I quit and reloaded the game, and everything was as normal - I was able to carry on without problems. But does anyone know what it meant, and more importantly what caused it?

almost certainly an internal problem with TGF, i doubt very much that you could have done anything about it.

but to what it actually means i have no idea. looks like there was a screw up with how it was storing active objects.

"Object structures newer versions. You should NOT save this game!"

Objects can store various data in the game, but new versions of that object can extend or change the data that it stores - if you were to upgrade from the new object, TGF would recognise that it has a newer data structure, and ask the object to convert from old data structure to new. However, it can't go from new to old... and if something gets corrupted in memory or your save game, TGF might think that it's supposed to use a newer version of the object that doesn't exist.

I've never had this happen but this is a theory, based on what I know about extensions and the SDK.

Chris: correct, and if you do save the game after all, you'll end up with a very funny game or just a crash
