I require a raster graphics editor of specific design and features for my nostalgic needs.

So I'm trying to make one, I tried the draw object but that has no load or save features so I am trying the overlay redux object for now but it doesn't resize properly and it can only load or save .bmp, even though this... any file loaded into the overlay that isn't the correct size still turns out fine and not distorted unlike when you actually resize the overlay.

I suppose I could use the image manipulator to support more file types and I am using the viewport for zoom.

I just wanted to ask if there was a much better way to get a custom-made art program?

If you're using MMF2, the Surface extension is what you need - but it's still going to be very difficult.
What features are so special that you need a custom graphics app?

Surface appears to be awesome but it didn't tell me what file formats it supports.

The feature I must say that I need the most is that it is 256 colour or 8 bit. http://www.shikadi.net/moddingwiki/VGA_Palette

Virtually any raster graphics app will allow you to set the color depth, adjust palettes, etc - just don't use Microsoft Paint or MMF2's own picture editor, and you'll be fine.

Everything is going beautifully until I decided I wanted a select tool that comes with Ctrl+C, I thought I could simply use Settings>Clipping Rectangle in the Surface object to define a selection but it turns out that feature does nothing. I really want selection.
