I think I bring this up every few years. Everyone seems to agree that it's a good idea, someone then tells me that they're building a site for that very purpose, and that site seems to disappear a few years later. So, difference is this time, I'll personally watch over it.

Here's the gist of the idea...
In the real world, nobody makes engines from scratch. They buy off an engine made by someone else, then build things on top of that engine.

Klikers have this tendency to keep reinventing the wheel. I guess partly it's because there's a joy in inventing something, and it's a lot easier than improving on an existing wheel design. But people who actually want to make games end up spending too much time on the fine details that someone else has sorted out. Plus, the whole open source thing actually teaches you actual good programming skills.

Most sites which try to do this usually just lump together a lot of engines, good or bad. And many don't really arrange them either, so if you're looking for say, a platform engine or a RPG inventory engine, it's just a lot of work to sift through them. I intend to look them through and rate them individually, maybe even add some better coding or comments if the author allows it. And I want to place different engines side by side, and remove those which are inferior in every way.

To make it easier to handle the bureaucracy for such a task, I made a project page for this here:
http://create-games.com/project.asp?id=2239

I'll probably make a proper HTML site or something for it later if it gains enough momentum

(BTW, my laptop is dead, and Internet bills unpaid, so expect me to start on this somewhere around late Jan)

Heh, had my internet cut off just hours after the original post. Since there's like no response, I guess I'll just sift through what's out there later on
