Hello!

Has anybody played Red Dead Redemption? When you ride past something of importance you may hold CIRCLE to look at it and the camera will turn to look but your character will keep moving in his original direction.

I want to replicate this effect in a 2d side scroller.

Scrolling is centered on the players X position.

But when you approach a special house, the camera speeds up, giving you a larger view of the house.
And as you walk away from the house, the camera slows down, showing you the house for a little longer.

Like this sort of:

Does anybody know of an efficient way to achieve this?

I've been playing around and had a bit of luck but it is very sketchy.

Also if anybody knows of any other good scrolling examples let me know!

Cheers everybody for being so great and helpful.

Peace!

There is an effect just like that in mine and Zephni's scrolling engine, plus a whole lot more, take a look.
