Ive got a 500gig drive, that I want to clone to my NEW 1TB, Both Sata, and it not my OS disk,
Ive never CLoned a disk before, I assume I can just put the drive in and copy over the contents, but it is a drive with my steam games installed on it, so after the copy and change of drive letter would it work as if nothing happened ?
or do I need to source a cloning tool or something

Well, it's likely that that would work. I believe when I tried to move Steam to an external hard drive without taking the proper steps, I had some issues. But that was a different situation.
Unless you have some super advanced software that checks the serial number of your hard drive or checks for file fragmentation or something ( ), or you have system files registered as being on the drive or a boot record, it should work.
The simple solution is to just use a cloning tool to be sure. Macrium Reflect is a nice free one, but there are plenty of others.

I moved my steam folder from C to D with no problems - it was slowly eneveloping my small (originally planned to be windows/core stuff) C partition.

Do so at your own risk though . Plus you are likely to break all the other software installations, so a cloning program maybe better.
