Thanks! I originally left it a little less shaded to make it look flat like a clay cartoon. Here's a version with more shading--and then I also cut out most of the ridges under the eyes. (too much on the left; working on that.) Tell me which you like better. I also have a version with both the ridges and more shading on the eyes. I think I might like the ridges a bit better. Makes him look jolly.

If you need some more opinions you could, if you don't have one yet, get an account on DeviantArt and post both pics, (Be sure put a watermark on them, just to be safe) and set the description asking which pic the viewer prefers. OR you could ask on their forums. OR you could frontpage it...
Thanks, but I got the shape of the head and colors from the actual photo after adjusting the contrast to be more cartoony. It's more of a heavily modified picture than a "painting" I guess. There's no way I'd be able to do this from scratch.
