Well this is similar to my previous post, but I wanted make this a seperate post.

What do you think about manipulating graphics compared to sprites and backgrounds that would be 100% your design without any outside graphic references.

In case you might not be certain as to what I am talking about. In the legal sense of copy right, even a graphic image that you alter is still considered copy righted by the original owner. If you are given permission to alter a graphic art, under the law you are suppose to say "Copyright 2009 (your name) and its licensors. All rights reserved."

So what are your thoughts on that? Would it be the same to you in that you would want it to be 100% your work?

If so, how do you feel about the fact how professional games are typically a group effort with one group doing to art work, another the story line, another the sound etc.

We never said being "indie" was easy. However when everything is your own and its fully completed and polished to perfection, you get an amazing sense of joy that you completed a game and that its 100% yours.

Rockin' it.

This is why it's better to just give graphics a go yourself, or get someone who's willing to help out for free. There's no problems unless you decide to sell the game.

Just make your own graphics, people these days don't give a crap if you do it right. The trick is not to try at all:

You wouldn't believe how many people liked the graphics.

Like I said in the other graphics/library discussion thread (kind of two threads with only slightly different discussions o__O), it's about consistency, and that game has really consistent graphics, maybe they aren't pixel Picasso masterpieces, but they look good and they look even better because they all fit with each other and don't clash. The consistency of the graphic work you do will improve the graphics as a whole many times over, in my opinion.

Oh, and if you think your graphics are bad, here's a tip: call them "retro". Works for everyone.
