Just got back from a staff showing of GI Joe. I never knew a film could transcend awfulness and loop back round into being entertaining again in such a way before. And I lost count of how many times it ripped off Star Wars. And enormous feats of logic on the half of the characters (He's Scottish, try commanding the plane in Celtic!). And using a particle accelerator to "weaponise" nano-bots. And why Jonathan Price, playing the American President, doesn't even try and disguise his extremely British Accent... I could go on and on.

Is anyone in any way surprised that it was so dire?

It's an attempt to make money out of the success that was Transformers 2. Doomed to fail.

I thought it looked like it would be an okay movie, maybe its because of Snake eyes. He reminds me so much of Gray Fox from MGS2 Twin Snakes.

I cringe every time the trailer comes on TV. There's just NOTHING good in there

I have to be honest, I saw the trailer twice when I went to see Transformers 2 and Public Enemies (PE is really good), and GI Joe looked lame as f***.

I saw the trailer at the cinema. Before I knew what was going on (I honestly thought it was a Halo or Turrican film, what with the 'super suits'), then I saw Ecclestone and got happy. Then a green goo did stuff. Then it said GI Joe. Then I stopped caring.

Might watch it on DVD if my sister gets it (she's a fan of that side of Hollywood). But no way woulds I pays money fors its.

GI Joe, well I always thought it was a pretty good cartoon, at least when it used to be called "Action Force"

is Sgt. Slaughter in the movie ?

if not then there is no point in watching it,

what are they gonna do next, Ring Raiders the movie,
or Centurions the movie,
or Spiral Zone the movie,

Who can tell.

I haven't seen it yet but I knew it was deemed crap from the beginning. Basically another boring cliche action movie with a different title. Doesn't help any, considering I don't like G.I. Joe in the first place.

I'd like to point out I didn't pay to see it. I have taste x) We have showings after the cinema closes so the staff can watch films before they're released. We've got an Inglorious Basterds one coming up, as well as Final Destination in 3D.

But anyway. Sgt Slaughter = no. Snake Eyes = kinda cool, doesn't really do a great deal except fight his rival in a slightly ironic fight in a big tube that ends in death. Must be nice for Ray Parks to not be the one plummeting to his doom for a change.

Oh yeah, it had blatant product placement that didn't even attempt to disguise itself. A character's getting some files off of a high-tech computer with all the customary Hollywood scrolling text and grids and suddenly, right in the middle of the shot, up pops a Norton Anti-Virus splash screen. I mean please.

And Jthongbai, Public Enemies was rather good, if a little too slow in some places The HD distracted me throughout the whole thing though. The frame rate and CC made it look like a made-for-TV movie...

Yeah some people complained about the camera shots, some of them were a little strange I guess but it didn't really bother me. I enjoyed the movie anyway

Hmm, i never thought for a minute it was going to be another classic film, but i am disappointed that everyone thinks it's crap. Then again, i enjoy crap films (looking at my DVD collection i could mention some howlers i've bought knowing they would be crap, Bubba Ho-Tep being a good example).

So in conclusion, i will wait for DVD release.

Only because anything with Bruce Cambell in it is going to rule, regardless of how crappy the movie actually is.

Sucks to hear G.I. Joe was bad, me and 4 of my buddies are going to see it this Friday. We all watched the cartoon and had all the toys back in the 'day. Of course, they did screw up Transformers didn't they

I haven't seen it. And I don't really plan on. It seems a lot like it was in transformers territory. I loved Transformers movies, but I just can't get excited about GI Joe. Most likely because of GI Joe's bad rep. People just stereotypical consider it immature, even more than Transformers before the movies came out. I had the same thing happen when I saw the trailer as Dr. James. It looked okay at first. The main thing that got my attention was how it said "From the Director of the Mummy" I'm a big fan of Stephen Sommers movies. His latest movie, Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperror wasn't that great, but it was still okay and the one before that, Van Helsing was great. But regardless of his big name on the GI Joe list of names, it wasn't enough to get me excited.
