Okay, so today I have gotton bored, and decided to start to make a tile set for a side-scrolling RPG, or platformer.
So far, I have a couple of tiles, and think that they look pretty good.
But I have a question:

When I was done, I was thinking about putting them on TDC for people to download and use free for a game, or something similiar.
Then I started wondering, who would actually use them?
If you think you would, please post here.
I don't know if I should continue on this little project or not.

What do you guys think?

Here is a example of the tiles.
They are still pretty much WIP;

Make the sky background more organic and less linear, at the moment it just seems kinda lazy

I know who would use it, Shadypixel would.

btw, I'm going to set up a place for us to assign tasks and upload code shortly.

Well the background was just to fill up space ATM.
I can say though that I diddn't know what to do with it, but I will thanks!
I was asking more about the actual tiles.

Should I add more AA to the colors in the grass?
Or should I go for more of a straight color ramp instead or the yellowish green to the blue?

I will work on it, and later today post another mockup type thing.

Looks good so far. Add some more tiles, ground variations etc and objects and it would be a killer resource for people in need of tiles. Why don't we have free tilesets resource or section of the site? That would be really helpful to newbies and look better than using premade library of MMF/TGF. Even if it was just a forum thread or project page for free game resources.

@OldManClayton: what what what? Like a code/example request?

I really like that set! It's cool

People would use them if you gave them out ONLY if it were a complete set with sprites etc - ready for a coder to make it into a game. People wouldn't be able to mix art styles easily and make it look good.

Oh, I was talking to MacAdaM. I was referring to a place to keep our mini-group's projects organized when we make something this summer.

Anti-climactic, I know.

I did redraw them.
Awe, haha.
Well I guess I can take another crack at it.

And don't worry, im already making sprites to go with the tile sets, and I'm planning on adding buildings and other objects.

OMC, we have to take another crack at SP.
Maybe sometime we should OMChat? (Haha)

Any suggestions for the tiles?
So far I have, flat, 2x1 slope, and 1x1 slope.
What other tiles will I need for a plain type levels?

Yes, we do need to make something this summer. We'll try a more organized approach.

Good idea.
Haha it might help if we have some ideas before just trying to make a game.

MORE ON TOPIC STATEMENT:
I have tried to revise the sloped tiles. Restarted the sprites to try and fit a better style.

With slopes and pieces like that, look at the tilesets for the game "N+" or "N Plus", they use a lot of different slopes and tiles so you can make pretty cool levels with them. Like 3x1 slopes as well as little bits and pieces to make all the tiles fit fairly seamlessly.

Maybe like 15 minutes for each tile.
I had to find the right colors that went together.
Hahah.
Thanks for the support guys, I will try and have a new picture up soon.
