For some reason, my MMF2 won't play MIDI files. I've tried several different files and none of them will work. The MIDI files won't play even if I try to play them through an extension.

WAV, MP3 and OGG all still work, so it's not like MMF2 has disabled all sounds, or something.

Anybody have any idea what's going on?

Thanks a lot.

Same here, but I don't think I've played a click game with midi for a very long time. They still play fine in Quicktime and Media player too.

Yeah, they all work just fine in Windows Media Player.

MMF2 even lags when it plays a large MIDI file, as if it's loading it, but no sound comes out.

You might have your MIDI track muted. Windows Media Player likes to do this. Go into the sound mixer and make sure all the tracks are checked in the optionsmabob menu. Then make sure the MIDI one isn't muted and is turned all the way up.

If it were, wouldn't that make them NOT work in Windows Media Player?

Or in anything else, for that matter?

Haven't used MIDI in... forever. Let me see...

Edit: Plays fine for me. Check your mixer.

I thought my computer was the only one that muted the SW Synth at random!

I hate it when that happens.

I always have trouble in MMF2 when I load a TGF1 game with midi files in it. As soon as I take the midi out to replace them by something nicer I get massive slowdowns, which can only be solved by loading and stopping a midi at the start of the level.

Thought so. Windows Media Player takes control of the MIDI track and plays it through its own mixer, I think. Whatever the reason, that's the cause.

Midi is so 10 years ago now. Why don't you just take your midis and use samples to make good sounding stuff with them? Export to mp3 and no more loading problems for Kazuma.

Small files. Also, Midi's converted to MP3 don't always sound good, depending on your sound font.
