Anybody knows some good websites for free sound effects?

Soundsnap was really good, but not anymore...

A good source I found was Freesound.org

Just make contact with the folks you're borrowing sounds from. Better to be safe then sorry.

What? You need to actually look at the site for more then a few minutes. Plus, there's nothing on that site you can't work with, using Audicity.

I get most of my "non-MMF CD" sounds from Freesound... i don't see how you can say there isn't enough sounds on there!

It is very handy to be able to edit sounds in Audacity. I needed a sound effect of a light bulb breaking, but the only relative thing I could find was a giant pane of glass smashing. A quick crossfade, and speed/pitch increase in audacity and I had exactly the sound that I wanted .

I do use Freesound quite a bit but otherwise I just search for the sound I want in Google and find a good site from there.

Have you looked soundsnap, a week ago you could download anything, now they set up a stupid 5 a month limit.
They have really anything you want, and you can use it commercaly without contacting anyone. One of the best sites for sounds, until they decided to have that limit. Damnnit if I would known before that they would set up that limit, i would download like crazy...

They have excellent search aswell.
Just for shotgun sounds they list over 150 sounds... so it's bloody more better than freesounds
9mm weapons lists 300 sounds, while freesound lists only 6.

and 56 sounds regarding light bulbs...

When looking stuff up on FreeSound, you need to be more creative with what you search. Not everyone uses search engines as nice as Google to assist in finding things. You need to search related terms too. Like, Shatter, Burst, Break, Glass, and so on.
