I still can't get this to work properly. I've looked around and I've seen that you need to put MMF1.5's dmc2.cox and bass.dll in the extensions / mmf1 folder and I've done that but it jus doesn't work. All I get when I open my application are those generic "MMF2" icons where my DMC2 objects should be. When I go to run the application it says "dmc2.mfx not found!"

But according to an old post earlier this year, Phizzy says the solution is:

"Put DMC2.cox in \extensions\MMF1 and replace the DMC2 events with real ones."

What I don't get is the second part of this sentence. Replace the DMC2 events with real ones? I'm supposed to get rid of my DMC2 events, but replace them with what? I can't get MMF2 to play mp3 songs yet. Other posts from the Clickteam forums mention putting cncs232.dll in the extension folder to help, which I did, but it doesn't work still. I've also tried renaming DMC2.cox to DMC2.mfx in the regular extension folder but all that does is crash my game.

A lot of people here must still use DMC2 for MMF2 right? How did you get your to work? I've got my text blitter working, so this is the only thing holding me up and it's very aggravating to say the least.

Thank you!

I believe that by replacing the events with "real ones", Phizzy means that you have to change everything to work with a different extension, one that actually exists in MMF2. But I could be wrong.

Ok, you can't run the game using .cox files, since MMF2 can't actually read them. You have to replace your events that use DMC2 with ones not involving it (it needs to be totally gone from the game for it to run). The DirectSound/DirectMedia object or whatever it's called plays .mp3 files - but you could just use .ogg files natively?

I'm such a n00b at some things I'm afraid.

I'm almost brand new to .ogg files and I see MMF2 can run them fine, but I thought .oggs were just better compressed .wav files? If I can convert mp3s to ogg files that'd rule and I'll just axe all this DMC2 shit right now!

Download Audacity, it'll be able to convert mp3s to ogg.

ogg's are about on par with mp3's I've found - filesize and quality wise. Ogg's are sometimes better in fact, Audacity would have been my choice too .

OGG is open source. MP3 is licensed. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MP3#Licensing_and_patent_issues
I recommend you use OGG for games.

I downloaded a free mp3 to ogg converter from downloads.com last night and converted all my mp3s to oggs. What was weird, is even at the worst quality the ogg filesizes were bigger than the mp3 files. They still sounded the same, and they'll go into MMF2 now, which was great. I took out every instance of the DMC2 object and the music playback works perfectly.

However, there were many awful side effects from moving my game to MMF2. I need another thread for them I'm afraid.
