I fell out of clikking a couple of years ago due to school/life/etc. but now the stars have aligned and I found myself making a game two days ago. I quit my job, the girlfriend is on a family trip, it's summer so theres no school and most of my friends are off island right now, so I can sit back and relax and finally make a damn game.

The problem is, I suck. I was never very good at this stuff to begin with, and two years away didn't help.

My game is an RPG-ish type set in my high school. For the past two days I've been making the map from memory and I'm pretty pleased so far (pics below).

I also made some NPCs which are ok, although I've only done 3 of the 30+ or so I plan to make.

I also have a clear sense of where I want it to go and the drive to finish it.

Here's where you can help. I have no clue whatsoever about how to make the speech system. I mean none at all. I've been trying strings and alterable values, whatever. I have so much text I plan to write I need a solid system to deliver it. The game is story driven. I have 30-individual NPCs and 10 or so background fillers. I've tried searching the forums and downloads and not much has helped.

If anyone has any ideas or demos or engines please post and remember you're talking to a MMF2 retard. Ideally I'd like something easy to edit and add to.

Here are some pictures:

The entry to the school w/ cafeteria (characters are not final )

The gym which is raised above a parking lot.

These little territories will be filled with the appropriate NPCs later. The bridge, the tree, the ramp, the stairs all had their little cliques.

This is a mock-up I made in paint of what I want the display at the bottom of the screen to look like. The NPC, a full size picture of who you are talking to, the text, and some information of the zone you are in.

This is the map of the entire school so far. I'm missing a couple of buildings and a lot of little details. You can compare it to the real thing here:

http://www.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=40.001301,91.054688&ie=UTF8&ll=21.384547,-157.92969&spn=0.002732,0.005558&t=k&z=18

And that's it! Thats what I have to show for three days work. Any help with the speech system will be greatly appreciated, credited, cameo-d, whatever. The text basically is the game, you get information, jokes, quests, everything.

Apologies for length and being a complete and utter n00b. Glad to see TDC is the same. Thanks in advance!

I have a few scrolling text engines on my HDD, but I don't know where I could upload them since my sever is long gone. If nobody else can link to any I'll see if I can get them to you in some shape or form.
