I was impressed by what radio head did with their latest album. Putting it on the internet and letting people buy it off them for as much as the person thought it was worth..

I was thinking about doing this with my latest game once it's finished. I don't know if this is the best site to ask about whether to use, html, php, asp or somthing else to do this kind of thing, but I thought that maybe someone else has done this before.

So yeah if this has been done, or anyone else thinks this is a cool way to make some money with their games, could you shed some like on any of the issues relating to this. And maybe the best way to go about setting up a bank transferre account.

Cheers.

Incredibility.

Edit: Though I'd imagine you'd get a lot of people "buying" it for nothing, only a few people who appreciate game development would prolly pay a fair ammont - or someone who absolutly LOVED the game, like in an obsessed way.

I've been a bit interested by donationware in the past. Minimum donation of £1 and you get the game.

I don't think you'd get much if you let people pay nothing for it.

I wouldn't mind about getting nothing for it. I think people should be able to buy stuff for $0.00
It's kind of like those restaurants when you pay what you think the meal was worth. Most people pay a decent amount, I don't know why though. But it's the nice thing to do I suppose.

we're used to not paying for the games we play here. So it would first of all have to be a decent game.

In this case an established band has a loyal fan base, and a pre made audience, so they have customer loyalty, you wouldnt have these, so it would be difficult for you to repeat with the same success.

Perhaps ebay should have a buy now and its left blank and the customer puts in a total, whatever they put in buys the item, perhaps you can do this already? I think this would be a very interesting experiment, I think you have brought a very interesting concept to our attention. If somebody does this, let us now how you get on with it.

Nothing wrong with allowing users to enter $0. The point is you have your donation interface right there in their faces, and can expect significantly more income than you would with a plain old "DONATE" button (which typically don't bring in much money at all except on ultra-popular project sites). Unless you've been hyping the fuck out of it, forcing players to pay some minimum value would probably kill 99.8% of your downloads which is a good way to lose word-of-mouth marketing altogether.

I think with the hobbyist sort of projects most of us do, this is really ideal. I remember wanting to add something like this to a website design document some of us were screwing around with months ago. Nothing happened with that, but it'd be the kind of portal-type site I'd do if I had the time and motivation.
