I need to learn how to go about creating short 'n' simple pieces of music. Stuffs such as the music you'd hear from a Super Nintendo or a Mega Drive game. I understand nothing of the subject.

How can I do this?

Find a program that makes midi files with a little piano and voices?

I started off with Midi Maker for simple midi stuff:

It's really easy to use, though there's no features other than basic stuff.

It doesn't do midis at all, but it's sort of a similar format. I really like it actually; there's supposedly a learning curve but I found the whole thing logical and straightforward.
Pod released a pxtone player extension, though I haven't tried it (you can also just convert to MP3 or whatever).

They're generally ten times the size of PxTone's native format, too.

I had problems installing the PxPlay extension as well. I contacted Pod about it, and he just told me to make sure the DLL file was in the right directory. Try copy/pasting all the files manually, that sort of worked for me.
