are there any examples?

or would someone please explain how you would go about building your own?

what extensions would you need?
can you load 3d models into it?
can it use 3d acceleration?
is it hard to 'code'?

(I don't mean mode 7 i mean polygon based 3d engines)

As far as I know, it's not possible. There's word on a couple 3D extensions, but theres also the fact that they've been under development for years and the only rumors about them anymore, are self-spread through the community, not by the actual developers.

As far as 3D acceleration goes? MMF2 can't even support hardware acceleration alone, to fuel it's 2D graphics at a decent speed, let alone 3D acceleration.

Even if it were possible to make 3D in MMF2, I'm almost positive that you'd be doing atleast 5x more work then you were if you just learned a simple language like Blitz3D or something simple like that. Clearly it's not the best, but with ease and stability, it's a pretty clean cut choice.

AsparagusTrevor uses 3D rendered sprites in his games.

There is no easy way of doing true 3D in MMF2, but afaik, someone was working on a 3d extension (not the irrlicht, that was abandoned i think, unless somebody else took over - possibly Vortex2)

So essentially, dont bother trying to make one until a decent extension is made.

Turboferret was originally making the Irrlicht object but he fell off the face of the planet. I have plans to make one using Ogre but it isn't even started yet, not only that but I still have my Fusion Dynamics extension to finish.

A bit of insanity with every bite!

JonWoG: and that immediately makes you think of WinRAR? Most good archivers support RAR, except for WinZip, but that's total crap.

"It's possible with KlikOpenGL, but there's only one converter left for the model format. And the format it converts from can only be made properly with an old version of 3DS Max or something, and then the converter is shit and crashes most of the time... So you're limited to cubes and custom polygons in the MMF editor. Sprite mapping's pretty easy though. You can make games like those early FPS thingies.

But it is very hard to code compared to other things."

Hm, that gives me an idea... Perhaps a model editor/loader/saver can be made with Klik OpenGL...

I've heard DirectX is pretty, I dunno, hard to use/learn. Most indies use OpenGL.

Using MMF2 for 3D game is a bad idea, we've seen some tries in the past but they all suffered the same fate..... death. MMF hasn't been made to handle 3D, so you're more or less waste your time if you try to do it at the moment.

The at the moment part is choosen on purpose. Clickteam is still working on somehow getting 3D into MMF2, but the engine will need some changes. I would wait for them to release 3D stuff before attempting to use MMF2 for 3D. If they fail to incoporate 3D into MMF2 you haven't wasted a lot of time.

OR.... You can look at other engines that do handle 3D and 2D. 3D GameStudio A6 comes to mind, but even more interesting is the torque game builder ( http://www.garagegames.com/products/torque/tgb/ ) It's 2D engine with a lot of 3D support. I haven't tried it myself, but it sure looks promising. I've had my share of 3D in the (recent) past and it's a whole different world then using MMF.

Whatever you do avoid using thegamecreators products (darkbasic & fpscreator), they're bad.
