I want to create an ID to identify some groups in an INI file. The thing is that the counter would need to keep its value even when the program is not running. My question is do global values retain their values or are they reset at exit???

They reset at exit, but why not just use another INI file, or an array?

Just save your values in another INI file.

I never thought of using another INI and i have no idea whatsoever about using arrays
