For a while now, I've been completly focused on nothing but 3D art, so I decided that I would jump over to pixel art and give it a shot.

Made completly by hand, nothing but the draw and line tool. I'd love to hear what people think about it. More to come, hopefully. Thanks.

That's amazing! How can you do it with only the draw and line tool. I don't get it. I wish I was that good...

Well, what about the ellipse and curve tools? I'm sure many pixel artists use those as well... But that doesn't matter. I was simply commenting on how much skill is needed to simply 'hand-draw' such a great pic. If I had to do that, I would use Photoshop for the shading and anti-alias and all...

Of course you can do that. You can do almost anything pixel by pixel if you know how, but it's faster to use the curve tool for curves, and the ellipse tool for ellipses - just as it's faster to use the line tool for lines. Brandon used the line tool... You don't NEED to do everything pixel by pixel. No point...

Nice drawing Brandon. Your alot better now than you were before. Good job In response to the others above. In small pictures I do pixel by pixel; but if there's a big space needed to be colored dont think Ima take the long route. Especialy when there is a big ole nice paint bucket to use.

@Dalal: Everything about pixel art IS pixel-by-pixel. Sure you can use such a tool, but you can make it bend or change more if you do it by hand... Takes a bit more time, but the end result is better.

Nice piece of pixel work! Not bad for a first one.

Yes, I guess so. I don't know much about pixel art...

But are you saying you couldn't achieve the same result as Brandon FASTER if you weren't limited to the draw tool? Go to Paint and look at its curve tool. Just in case you don't know how to use it, draw a line with it. Then select a point to curve around. Then, you can stop there, or choose one MORE point to make the curve EVEN MORE controlled. It's a pretty powerful tool. I'm not sure why a pixel artist wouldn't want to make use of the curve tool at least for their basic sketch. They can change the curve around to their liking afterwards. What about flood fill/paint bucket? I know that ellipses in most drawing programs turn out bad. But you can at least use that ellipse and edit it to make it perfect. It's a faster approach to pixel art.

But as I said, I don't know much about it. And I wanted to ask you guys something. What's a good place to learn pixel art? I don't mean the places where it simply tells you all about pixels. I understand pixels and colors pretty well. I want to know exactly how to draw curves, lines, shading, anti-aliasing. How to do it yourself. Pixel-by-pixel. Brandon, can YOU recommend some sites. You might know...

Thanks!
