I'm working on a game in my few minutes of free time, but it's not far enough yet to do a preview.

Anyway, you can help me come up with ideas for it!

Background:
A strange underwater people used to live in Atlantis. All they ate was mackrel, and they got sick of it, so they fled the planet to search for other food. Unfortunately all they could stomach was mackrel, and mackrel only lives on earth, so the whole lot starved in space.

Anyway, they left a race of unsuspicious but trustworthy creatures to ensure the remaining Atlantian technology didn't fall into the wrong hands. They chose Penguins.

One day however, a nasty breed of aliens with infectious ankles (named the Blartinartons - pronounced 'Blar-tee-nar-tons') decided to come and steal the artefacts left by the Atlantians. When confronted by the penguins, they thought 'hey-ho, why not?' and kidnapped them as well.

The result is that only one penguin remains on earth. He must now traverse land and sea to find six artefacts of Atlantian origin in order to rescue his fellow penguins and put a stop to the Blartinartons' evil reign.

Stuff:
The game runs in a kind of isometry, like Zelda. The penguin can move in 8 directions, as well as jumping. The jump is his main attack, bouncing on enemies Mario-style.

With each level he picks up one of six items necessary to beat the game. These items then give him a special attack (eg: fire breath).

The player has to have ammo (eg: 'magic') to perform attacks using items. I haven't decided whether these should be pickups or automatically replenishing.

The game runs in 320x240 full-screen.

Stuff to decide on
I need your opinions on the following:

- I think the player should be able to pick up confectionery and buy/sell stuff with it. So the player picks up choc buttons, candy bars, etc and sell them for gadgets. I need ideas for gadgets.

- Need level ideas. Levels are grouped into 'stages', and each stage should be themed for the item you find. The items you collect are as follows:

--1: Tree Stone; create a web of weeds and vines that temporarily trap enemies. Found in a stage that starts off as a meadow but gets more and more wooded. The boss you fight uses this against you.

--2: Fire Stone; shoot a stream of fire or create a temporary fire shield to protect against fire-vulnerable enemies. Found in a volcano stage. The boss attacks you with this stone's power. You have to temporarily disable him with the Tree Stone. He very quickly burns through the vines, but it buys time.

--3: Ice Stone; The same basic principle, but with ice. Found in an icy stage that starts off on a mountainside but ends up inside the mountain. The boss is a large polar bear with an ice shield. When you shoot fire at the shield, the snow melts off and it becomes apparent that the shield is made of stone. You must freeze him with the Tree Stone, then jump on his shield to break it. After that you can shoot him with the Fire Stone.

--4: Sun Stone; Shoot a beam of light. Only affects darker creatures. You enter a deep cave complex filled with evil spiders and what-have-you. The boss, however, is in a brighter part of the cave. He is a sun monster, an alien that lives in the outer core of the sun. Fire won't hurt him, ice melts before it reaches him, and your vines turn to ash when you use them. This creature isn't malicious, it's just angry. It wants to get home. You must survive long enough to help it get out. The stone is a gift of gratitude.

--5: Raven Stone; A very dark-themed stone, only affects monsters outside. A flock of Ravens come to your aid and attack all enemies onscreen. Found in a wet and overcast stage with castles and dark granite mountains. The boss is a murderous hunchback who uses the ravens to attack you. You fight him in the top room of the castle. His ravens encircle him, protecting against most attacks. The Sun Stone is most effective, but he has a mirror that shoots it back at you. As with the bear, you must destroy the mirror before you can harm him. One blast with the Sun Stone will put paid to his evil ways.

--6: Quantum Stone; The most powerful stone. Creates a dimensional 'pit' (thanks to Lens object) that destroys any enemy or boss instantly. Found in Atlantis itself. A deep sea monster has swallowed the stone and become mutated by it. This monster can use the stone to create dimensional waves that fire towards you. You can hide behind tall shafts of bedrock, but with each blast they get more of them knocked off. This means you only have a short time to figure how to destroy it (bearing in mind that the Fire Stone just makes bubbles underwater, the vines can't grow in sediment, and many of your other gadgets won't work either).

Only when these stages have been beaten can you use the Quantum Stone to chase after the Blartinartons (and thus begins the final, 7th stage).

I need help with ideas for sub-levels within these stages, little puzzles I can feature, and enemies that can inhabit these places.

It's part of Joshua's diabolical scheme to lure people to their site.
