wondered if anyone else empathises with me - you start a game full of enthusiasm, work hard at it for goddam ages but never properly finish it! I've got loads of (think) promosing unfinished games but when I return to them i never seem to finsh them. Must have about a dozen of them at least - anyone else in this boat????

I can beat that with 2.75gb. My game are usually big though cos I use a lot of 3D rendered graphics.

so WHY do we never finish them? I think it's because we never see the end - or we are scared that the end will seem trite/corny/simple ...??? may be we all need to go back to those games and finish them come what may ?

You don't finish them because your next idea is 100x better.

I get bored because i run out of ideas too quickly whilst making a game. It comes from a lack of planning really because making games on the fly is easier.

My games folder is only 84 megabytes yet hidden elsewhere on my pc is the Buzz the squirrel 2 folder at 41 mb. "How the heck is that?" you may ask, well it's because i keep backing it up and keeping a copy in the original folder, so there are 42 gam files with the most recent at 1.4 mb.

yes i agree with andy, it is almost always due to lack of planning, since that's where you organize and order your work ahead of time, just relying on inspiration alone is never good, unless you are making a little game, otherwise, inspiration never goes very far, so always plan ahead, and if you suddenly get stuck, then you'll know that you couldn't have finished it even if you didn't plan, at least if you plan everything out, everything'll be a breeze when it comes time to actually make the game

i always get lots of good ideas, but i always start working on something else when i come to the boring coding stages That and bugs fucks up most of my games... I think i'm just too lazy to finish them, or not enough determined to do it. I'd need like a trainer, a coach to stand there with a whip and threaten me to a very painful death if i don't finish them

or if i could just join a team. Maybe i'll just go over to the solitaire club forum...

If it's a good game, then the newness will wear on again (whatever that means).

But personally, it's because I either put too much planning into it, or don't plan enough. The really nice ideas tend to get screwed up because of bad planning, and the even nicer ideas don't make good games
