I want to make a game, but I can't think of one to do.

It needs to be simple to code and not graphically too demanding (sprites, anims, etc), because I have very little time free these days.

So what could I do? I'm thinking of maybe making something to do with my webcomic, Harrington Park (www.harringtonpark.tk ), but nothing that will require too much spriting/animation.

Any ideas?

I was pondering maybe a kind of pong-like game in which you can choose to play as one of the characters from the comic. That wouldn't require as much spriting as a platform game would, which is good. Downer is I'd have to work out a kind of pong A.I., which is a nuissance.

Any other thoughts?

An arcade, maybe? A clone of Pacman? It doesn't need good graphics, and it is quite easy to program, too. Or maybe something new? A hand trying to kill fleas with a sandwich?

I was going to make a pet zombie simulator, but now I'm working on Scurvy Sanchez 3 instead. PM me if you want to pick it up.

Pong AI shouldn't be too hard. If ball Y > paddle Y then paddle Y=paddly Y+1 and reverse.

A pacmanesque thingy may be the way to go. I could have it based on a school training exercise for Harrington Park.

Maybe each level has more than one way to be completed, but there are tiles with such things as heat, light, darkness, cold, etc. The different character abilities determine which route they must take. So if you play as Heather (she's got fire abilities), then you can run straight over hot tiles and they won't affect her. But you need to avoid ice.

Conversely if you play Adne (ice power), then you need to avoid hot areas and go for the cold routes instead.

Maybe certain blocks can also only be destroyed by a certain power, leading to bonus areas, etc.

You could also use it strategically against opponents. Heather might lead enemies into a fiery corridor so that they burn, or Adne might lead monsters down a slippery icy pathway so that they slip off the edge or slide straight into a wall of spikes (because of course, Adne won't slip on ice).

Your thoughts?

Dines, great idea! If you made a game like that, with many levels, characters and stuff, you maybe would win GOTW!

Only downer is it'd take a fair bit of graphics and coding again, I was really looking for something simple...

I'd say stay away from Clones as much as possible, simply because they're overdone. Especialy PacMan.

If your looking for somehthing simple you'll probably have to go with a Highscore game. Simple yet Addictive can often be harder to come up with than the complex games though. I personaly can't think of anything right now...I'll pop back in if I do though.

Yeah, I'm looking for a scoring game, preferably one I can build an engine for. Breakout and Pacman are good for them kinda thingies, but as you rightly said, they're a tad over-used.

A racing game is a possibility, but it's a long time since I've made games, so I'd have to re-research all the 360 degree movement stuff and it'd probably be a bit too time consuming for my liking.

A shoot-em up would work, but I can't think of how I could twist it to apply to my webcomic.

Any ideas?
