In The Games Factory, if it crashes, as it does quite often, then next time you go on you can recover the file you were working on - even if you didn't save it. This was extremely time-saving and was one of the best features on it. Now on MMF, if it crashes (which it does even more) then you can't recover the file. Why not? Have Clickteam really taken away one of the best features of TGF? This really bugs me as for £50, MMF is not reliable at all, and the recovery feature would save me loads of effort and time. Does anyone know why this situation is?

Ah, but MMF has auto-backup (I think), if you enable it, and will make multiple backups.

MMF does make Autobackups if you tell it to. To turn autobackups on, go to File, then click on "Preferences" The autobackup should be there.

It will make multiple backups if and when you save it. And if I'm saving it, there isn't much use for my backup copies unless my proper file gets corrupt.

I found that the recover option in TGF sometimes messed up all the events and could completely ruin a frame of the game. So I never used it anyway.

MMF's Aut-back up is crap, it just gets annoying MMF making about 20 copies of your project, TGF's way kicked ass.

Yves/Francois once said MMF automatically implements the auto recovery feature, it just doesn't pop up a message so people don't think it's crashed. I've never noticed it though, probably because MMF has only once or twice crashed in the middle of work in the whole time I've had it. Noodle, have you patched up to build 117?

MMF's auto backup has actually saved me many a time, it's also useful if you make a stupid change (e.g. delete the player) then save. Just go to backup #1. I have MMF set to make 5 backups, 20 is ridiculous (TGF never auto backed up).

I just manually make backups as I work, and save after every little change, especially when I'm working with the animation editor. After something major I start another backup.

I keep at least two, but usually three copies of each project of mine, and save over the oldest one when a major change is made. (Son, Father and Grandfather files - the only useful bit of theory that I ever learned in Comp Sci.) I also save before doing anything with the Picture or Animation Editors, as they're rather prone to crashing horrendously.

whenever im saving i save it as gamename1 then the next big change gamename2 etc, save in different directories, if you can, chuck one on another computer, upload to some private webspace or stick it on a floppy/usb or whatever. if you trust team mates you could send it to them too.

Re: auto recovery feature. I believe they said you have to open the file you were working on to get the recovered version - open another or create a new one and you lose it. I've never had to try that, though.
