So here we are months later. I'm really considering working on a demo now. Not sure whether to make it quite beefy so it's more like a start to finish freeware game, or to siphon off part of the main game. Or just a tech demo (kinda like the intro to HL1) with a couple of levels.
Or just use the engine to make a mini game with completely different art to give me a break making caves and mines and such. HMMM.
I would have taken a demo over all those trailers any day. Because despite all we've seen i still don't really know how the game plays or what you can do.

-Dark Martin- The dark is most certainly not your friend
For reals I'm considering doing a little demo of sorts to also test the DLC waters with how easy it is for people to make content, how much strain my server can handle. And junk.
my god dr. james give us a demo, i´m starving!!!!!!
i play braid, far cry 2 and burnoutparadise but what
i am really waiting for is tormi!
All the other games can go to...
Geez, this game is so hyped up that everyone is going to be disappointed no matter how extremely good it is!
You might want to make a demo soon so they don't blow an expectations gasket or something in their circuitry.
I'd recommend just a brief little tech demo of the things that can be done in the game. Although a little spinoff game would be good, it may take away from sales in the real game if you give them a storyline an' all that in the demo, especially if the story is too similar to the real game. But if you only show them what can be done in the game and give them few playing scenarios to do them in, they'll be buying the game so as to actually get to use the abilities in a real gaming situation.
If all these folks put their money where their mouth is, (it's an expression) then you should make a good wad of cash out of this endeavor. I wish you luck James. One day I hope to get so far as you have with Tormishire.
Fantastic work! .. Keep on Kliking!
Blood of the Ancient One, Seen only as Shadow, Faster than Lightning, Fierce as the Greatest Dragon, Nearly Invisible, Floating in a Dream, Entered through the Demon Door, Destroyer of Evil in a Realm with a Red Sky Scarred, Who could I be ?
That's always the problem with a fairly public devlog. But yea, it's not going to be for everyone. The pacing might throw a lot off. It's also probably not a good idea to play if you don't like Metroidvania type games. Oh and there's no real weapon for a very long time.
Infact the experimental things as a whole will throw a lot off.
But as always I'm making a game that I want to play. If I wanted brownie points I'd have made a direct sequel to my most downloaded game, not something completely different from it.
Anyroad I think I've got an idea for a demo. It's the start of the game but with a few key items already given to the player and a few routes blocked off. But I'm much too preoccupied designing the remaining bits of Chapter 2 for now.
