Of all my current projects, this has the least designed so far. Thus, it can go any way.
I'm looking for help of all sorts, but I'll stick to two categories for now:

GAMEPLAY / LEVEL DESIGN
The game needs a theme and idea. Right now it's little more than a proof-of-concept, and I'm still wondering whether such a concept is worth pursuing.
The aspects of the gameplay must be a bit more concrete before anything can really be made of it.

Once there's a game (and graphics), I'd hope to have some level design help, though that would depend on how easy it becomes to design levels.

GRAPHICS
The graphics for this game are sort of in-between tile-based and instance-based. Each of the objects is an object in itself, but can be used as tiles to make larger objects. There is no set theme right now, but I'd like to shoot for sort of otherworldly environments, as the limitations here a pretty loose.

I'm not sure how much I can really put into this project, so if anybody's interested, feel free to step up and tell if you'd like to help try and make something of it.

And again, I don't want to pressure anyone into sticking with something that you don't want to be involved with. Feel free to leave the project if it turns out to not be your kind of thing.

What do you already have? Is it a platform game or what? Please tell because I have no idea what sort of game it's suppose to be...

Well, it's fundamentally designed like Space Harrier or After Burner, if you've ever played those. A view from behind the character as he continuously moves through enemies and obstacles, which are represented by scaling sprites.
The basic gameplay is just shooting and dodging, but I was wondering what else I could do with it.

For example, I could integrate RPG elements, whether it's just adding experience, leveling powers and the like, or actually slowing it down and trying to add exploration (which might prove difficult), a deeper story, NPCs and the like.
Or I could try to add some shoot-em-up elements, with weapons powerups and options and the kind of stuff you might expect from a Gradius game.
Or, with some careful planning, I might be able to add puzzle elements, though I'm not fully sure how I'd do this.

I could even get rid of the horizon and present the whole game as though you were descending into something. I'm not really sure where to take this.

...but right now it's Space Harrier style: a flying shooter with a view from behind the character.
