first and foremost, when you get caught, you die, no ifs ands or butts, i refuse to discuss it. i hate playing a zombie game and seeing the hero get bit 1000majillion times and doesnt turn.

second is the food. i wanted to have it randomly show up but i thought it might be so much cooler to have something like harvest moon, but when you wake up to water the crops you have to not only worry about thems dying, but you too.

then there is the weapons. you get one gun, but you get to modify it in your spare time, like in the sims when youre working on your cooking, but instead of making emril go BAM your gun goes BAM and shoots his head off. but you can also screw it up too and while your tinkering its skill can go down. there will be a meter that moves up and when it finishes you will either gain more to a random skill or loose one to a random skill. from the video you can see that the player has the cursor right up against him, well the story goes out that you start with a gun with broken sights, so ya gotta fix em.

that brings me to the next point, there wont be much of a story in this or other games, in fact, i can think that this is the only that calls for me to create a story at the beginning. i like playing games where i get to create the story, i dont like games that tell me where to go and do what they want, but the story will be pretty quick but ill go over it later.

then theres the sleep. you start out with nothing in the attic but with the materials ill introduce later you can build up a better bed to get better rest (who wants to haul an entire bed up into the attic?) while youre sleeping (in the attic where no zombies can enter) the zombies will be milling around doing whatever, and you might get lucky and see all them leave, but im debating on how to do this, weather i speed everying up during that time or leave it in real time to do the next step

multiple players. im not to into online games, so it'l most likely be split screen. its just a maybe right now.

barricade system. youll have to go out and harvest wood from the forest to build up your barricades. most will impede you, but itll ensure the zombies dont bug you in your humble abode. i might even make it so you can enter and exit from the windows with the right materials, but untill then youll have to unbarricade everytime you leave the house.

the attic i think is a nice idea, and with the added concept of food itll make the player have incentive to go out from time to time, and plus some other things i might throw in will make them want to go venture outside.

im debating throwing in something retarded like at the begining the players character orders a box of flares and smoke, so randomly during the playtime a van will crash nearby providing the player access to flares, which the player can then use to order from a shopping network that will drop a crate of whatever you order around the flare. sounds dumb but it could be kind of cool.

but let me know what you guys think of all this, and any ideas on how to go about doing some of these. sorry i have an overactive imagination! lol.

I understand your feelings about the 'one hit' system. Even though I can barely imagine a zombie survival game where you can't get injured, it would be nice to see a game where the chances of survival isn't based on a coloured bar or life points .

The concept sounds interesting too. In most survival games the goal is either "Go on! You need to stay alive long enough to get out of this zombie infested hellhole" or "Even though there's absolutely no chance of surviving, you have to shoot zombies nonstop until they kill you, and compete with your friends how long you can stay alive". But your idea says: "Let's settle in this zombie infested forest far from civilisation and risk your life every time you go outside". Sounds very interesting indeed.

And the truck thing sounds absolutely marvelous!

OHMAN. i just quickly drew those sprites up, figures it has to look like something. although that guy looks alot better. to bad i cant download that game, ive got verizon (bastards)

@nick
thanks! its nice to see someone feels the same way about the style im going for. im problably not going to get all of it into the game but as it stands now it's at least playable, so other than death animations and letting the player actually die there rest is just fancy stuff.

I like that your making a zombie survival game. Actually I'm also making a zombie survival game called "The Last War"

These types of games are awesome, especially if you make an online scoreboard! You should do that! The binoculars are pretty awesome. Did you use the lens object for that effect?

i saw your game on the mini comp! it looks pretty fun, although yours seems like more of an action style game than a survival.

i hope i can do an online scoreboard, but thats going to be very late in the project.

yeah, i likes the binoculars! extention packs make everything so much coolier.

That was the minigame, and it didn't include any survival parts to it. The real game has a survival part to it.

yeah i can see where your going with it. this one is more of a simulation though, than an actual action game. still looks pretty entertaining though.

There should be "a lot of" gore, since it's a zombie game

Check the Metal Slug sprites for a good example of how zombies should be:

Really cool looking stuff, and great ideas. I love the flare/item drop idea. Reminds me of the unexplained food/supply drop on Lost. Never explain it, just do it. One hit kills are definitely the way to go in a Zombie game; only two states of being... Alive or Zombie. And that makes me think... If you do have more than one player in the game, what happens when one of the two players gets bitten? Just dead or a new zombie to stalk the other player(s)? Another food idea, if you haven't already thought about it, might be to actually go hunting. Deer, squirrel, etc. Good food, good meat, good God let's eat. Anyway, awesome stuff. I'm really looking forward to this game!

i love those ideas! actually, in the full plan of the engine that i wish to add on to in later years, i want to add a static population that starts off with one zombie and eventually takes over the rest of the population, but that would be very ai heavy, and require something alot more powerful than MMF2. ive got great ideas for the full engine that i dont want to touch on too much in this one, just more focused on getting the more basic ideas down pat.

as far as the hunting system goes, that is actually a very good idea, i could add a microwave or stove (lol at live squirrels) and impliment that with the refrigirator system that im going to put in. lol at the tim allen quote!

Wonder if you could write one set of ai code for humans and one for zombies and only call the appropriate code depending on the active objects state. MMF2 can do it! I have faith! If you're human, you walk around and avoid zombies... If you're zombie you lurch around and try to eat humans. Like the idea of a squirrel in the mic.. Beep... Beep... Beep... Z-z-z-z-z-z-z-z-z-z... SPLUTCH!! Get the squeegee!!
