Finally
Posted 19th Aug 09, by Johnny Look
I finally managed to implement something that looks like really elementary for most people but for some reason I spent the whole day trying to make it work.

I'm talking about simple coins you can pick up.

First, the integration with the level editor was a huge headache, and when I thought I had finished the hardest part, it was time to put that in the game and make it work.

Result: I spent nothing more nothing less than over 6 hours just to make the player pick up the damn things.

I reached a point when the frustration took control of myself, the last time I felt like this was in my early days with TGF.

Right now it's 4:20 AM here, but I don't give a fuck, I did it.

Now the player can pick up the coins. yay.

To pick up a new object, I just create 1 event. That takes me about 2 minutes max. But of course, everyone needs a level editor nowadays to make things easier

Blue66:I'm not using MMF2, I'm coding everything from scratch in C++, hence it was so difficult.
Well actually it wasn't that difficult, it's just that when you are used to other programming languages, some things look logical when actually they are not and when they don't work, I bang my head against the wall because I don't understand what's going on.

My mistake... I know how difficult those things are without using any programs to assist coding, because my friend tried to make a game with me once. The only thing he coded was making the player move left when the left arrow was pressed. I was like "dude, what's with the right direction?" and he was like "aw man, screw this..."
