S#32 Redone from scratch!
Posted 1st Mar 09, by SevenT2 - [GameStormers]
As the game got more and more complex with multiple guns etc, etc, it started to slow down a little and i noticed major programming flaws. So, i decided to redo it from scratch utilising a few features present in MMF 2 that were not in MMF 1.5

As such i now have layers to control the levels flow and embedded Event Groups to allow mass disabling and enabling when necessary. Its just cleaner and runs better.

Oh. And i made it look prettier.

the graphics certainly look more suitable. However the foreground looks rather plain. Especially in comparison with the excellent sprites.

Personally i would have made the main graphics look better before adding special effects like fog or backgrounds.

Haha, well, i'm better at Photoshop then i am at pixel art. Though i prefer pixel art for the foreground. They are more temporary placeholders than anything ( i hope)

I played your demo for this. Some of the weapons either don't seem to work properly or need a serious rethink.

The bazooka for instance you can't move whilst it is equipped, you can't even turn to face the other direction (bazookas are portable RPG platforms, thats the whole point of them!) If this is supposed to be for realism it isnt very realistic and hampers the gameplay quite a bit.

The other thing i didn't like is that your buddy powers on ahead killing all the guys for you which isn't very difficult, so im guessing the challenge will be to stop him from being killed in the real game... if this is the case it would be pretty useful to have some way of switching who runs point- squad commands maybe?

AndyUK: The difference in graphics is most likely due to the fact that I made the sprites and animations of the characters and SevenT2 did the other stuff.

@ ben mercer: Yeah, that was the old demo and I thought the exact same things, i've rethought all the weapons and redone most of the engine for gameplay, its a lot smoother now and weapons wont encumber you to the point of not being able to move.

Oh and the AI was waaaaaaay BETA. He will hang around with you once its completed, I just wanted to see if he could traverse the level.
