just a quickie

i fixed the ladder! yaay!!! i delved into the wonderful world of groups, and used the original script that was in the example file (thank you chris street) and made two triggers that if the top markers y is equal to the y of the players bottom edge and the opposite if the player is just overlapping the ladder, then if the player hits up or down (depending on the trigger) then the ladder group opens, and in the group the player is always at the x of the ladder and the y velocities do something (whatever was in the example) and if the player collides with the backdrop, presses left, right or gets within the top markers y-15 then the group deactivates. and on the last one the players y gets set to the top of the marker, so hes not climbing all up into the roof (that was obnoxious). the one problem which really isnt that big of problem, when the player enters from the top, the player just kind of falls down, which i dont really care about, but id like to know why.

i think its kind of cleverish, and it seems to work. any suggestions on how i can improve it?

another quick question. im debating on the character graphics. should i stay cartoony or make them a bit more realistc?

Ahh, you figured out the greatness of activating/deactivating groups! Nice. I've used them countless times including for my complex ammunition system in my game.

I think you should stick with the cartoons. The game looks cool like that.

yeah im leaning that direction, although im not good at effects... the bullets look like stupid.

try to add motion trails to make them look cooler.

Just make a clone of your bullet and make the animation longer by copying itself and making each frame lighter(5 frames) Then set it "display" to semi-transparent and set the coefficient to 60. Then do:

+Always

-Create copy of bullet at (0,0) from real bullet

+Is copy of bullet animation over?

-Destroy copy bullet

It makes a cool effect. For a photo of it check out my project. There's one photo of a rocket motion trail.
