Slowdown is fixed!
Posted 17th Sep 08, by -Nick-
So i finally got the slowdown issues fixed! I'm not going to say how as it's quite embarassing for me! Let's just say it was one of those little slip ups where you think "What if i did this..." then you realise you don't want that feature in the game, but you forget to fully remove it.

Here is a video of the game with a full length track (you'll never even need to build one this long). I 'hacked' the train speed variable in the game in order to boost the train around the track here. You can also hear the new chain lift sound effect at the end of the video.

AWESOME! That should be like a cheat or something.

I'm actually considering adding a similar 'cheat', but it's much more fun than just bashing the button!

Wow! This is looking and sounding fantastic!
Really looking forward to this!

Awesome work *plz*

This is looking brilliant, but two ideas:

1. When the coaster rolls down the slope, add some screaming sound effects from the people on it!

2. Make it possible for the coaster to get stuck upside down and have all the people fall out to their deaths

Thanks guys!

Well, if you look closely, the coaster cars are currently empty as it's doing a test run

And about the people falling to their death... hmm. I'm not sure, but i think it would be nigh impossible to get the coaster stuck upside down like that... the chances of it being evenly balanced are incredibly slim.

You haven't been to Alton Towers in the UK have you?! Happens all the time lol!

Actually i happened to spend three years in Staffordshire university just 30 mins drive from Alton Towers... i've finished now and moved home

Amma going Blackpool soon but yes. Can't wait to see this game in action. One little thing though - the camera seems to lag and the train is almost reaching the edge of the window in one part (when it's going at full speed).

Im at Disney World ATM Been on the Big Thunder Mountain railroad this morning

Posted by -Nick- 17th September, 2008

In reply to James, the camera lags so much because the train isn't supposed to go that fast, and probably won't actually reach that speed in normal circumstances when the game is played properly. If you look at the drop it takes before moving at that speed, you'll agree it's a bit unrealistic!

It does look like it's not going to make some of those big loops even at the increased speed it's going. But then carries on regardless.

Posted by -Nick- 17th September, 2008

If you read the start of the video, i stated that i put a little hack on the variables to speed it up.

Posted by Ski 18th September, 2008

This is the best looking project at the moment

I don't get why you're telling me that Nick... Thats not quite was I said.

Posted by alastair john jack 18th September, 2008

This game looks great!
I almost want to play this more than Tuki Tuki Island!

Posted by -Nick- 18th September, 2008

Andy, I wasn't trying to argue. You said that it didn't look like it was going to make the loops, and it wouldn't normally, but in this video i keep boosting the train forwards.

Posted by Codemonkey 18th September, 2008

I think he hits a button.

Posted by AndyUK 18th September, 2008

oh you're manually boosting it each time. I see now. ok.

Looks fun btw!
