Everytime I play a game with a MIDI for the music the game seems to just freeze for arorund 3 seconds then the level starts. this is annoying as the game isn't actually frozen, its playing to itself and when it eventually does start it quickly skips past everything to the point the level should be at... if that makes sence. Its just VERY annoying! Is it just my PC that does this? I can't remember it happening on my old ones... Anyone any ideas?
Common problem with games made with older versions of click products.
I know it's fixed in MMF2, I also think it's fixed in MMF1.5, but I'm not sure.

In the olden days, MIDI was done by a special MIDI chip on the sound card. The instruments were stored on that chip and thus, they were loaded fast and MIDIs would be able to start fast.
Now, we have software synth. No more chips on the sound card, but instead, Windows loads the instrument from a 3 MB file called "GM.DLS". Now finding the file and loading it from hard disk every time a MIDI starts makes that stupid lag appear.
Solution: none. You can't replace GM.DLS with a smaller sound bank, because it's a protected file and restores itself as soon as it's saved. I tried.
Btw, this being fixed in MMF2 is probably a trick by Clickteam by instead of restarting the MIDI, it switches back to the beginning of the song before it ends. Not sure, but it'd do the trick.
Oh right, Looks like I had better upgrade then.Oh right, looks like I had better upgrade then...
Oh, while we're on the subject, could you tell me why when you play a MIDI file in Windows Media Player and close it, why does the SW Synth volume bar go right down to the bottom? Thats really irritating too.

Oh yeah, I solved the problem on my Windows 98 computer (yes, it's high-end, 2 Ghz and 512 MB RAM) with a sound card (not integrated) by setting the audio device to OPL3. That's original Adlib FM synth sound for any MIDI you play!
It's cool, everything gets a retro feeling to it. I love Adlib.

That IS weird. No idea why it does that. But I don't use WMP anyway.
Hmmm, I thought this had to do with the pause that happens before the start of each MIDI loop when it's playing in a Click game. That's annoying, but I guess I just got used to it.

The reason why I hate midis is because on old computers where soundblasters were required, the sound ALWAYS end up diffrent than actually meant. Unless you transcoded it.
