I just noticed how stupid firefox is. I went into the options and clicked on passwords, and it just says "WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE EVERYONE'S PASSWORDS???" or something, and subsequently showed me all the passwords. This is stupid. Like that guy. You know the one... 'Dean' something...
I'm pretty sure each time I install Firefox I un-tick "use Firefox Start as your homepage" and it still sets the homepage to Firefox start.

i don't see how that's stupid. you can only see the ones saved on your windows user account. plus you can lock them with a master password. i think 5 year old software riddled with security holes is stupider, personally.

Shared computer. No user accounts.
Does that master password thing only ask you for a password when you want to look at passwords, or does it ask for the password whenever firefox tries to do something to do with passwords, like it sounded like it said.
Anyone malicious could probbably access both IE and FF passwords in seconds. FF allows you to access it through the main interface, while IE makes it look like its kept safely. Personally, I'd prefer knowlegde and power over IE's false sense of security.
Why is Firefox like training wheels? It's more like an armoured browser, where as IE is something soft and squidgy which absorbs spyware.
I don't understand why you'd prefer to use an ancient browser with poor security and incomplete CSS/PNG support (the bane of many a website). It hasn't had a major revision for years. OK, SP2 was a minor update, but where's IE7? Microsoft don't seem to care about it any more, and in the meanwhile everything else like Firefox gets the cool stuff (dear god how do you people live without tabbed browsing)
Firefox is for pros, thats why kiddies don't understand it. And no Josh, hackers could not break the 32+bit encryption that is used when you have set your master password, you can have over 100 chars in your password. I think the price you're paying for using a lesser browser is punishment enough.
Training wheels, firefox is a fucking spaceship when compared to the tricycle that is any other browser.
Steve Zissou: Anne-Marie, do all the interns get Glocks?
What the... what a load of crap. Firefox is WAAY better than IE!
IE is really bad, it's highly sensitive for spyware, dialers, hijacks and much more.
Also, Microsoft never really fixed these leaks and when they come with a patch for IE you only have to wait for a day or so and that patch has become useless.
I only use Firefox now and I'm happy with it, finally I can surf on the internet the right way.
And about those passwords, what's so stupid about it? It's better if it's saved like that. This way you'll know that the data is saved on the pc. That you don't see it in IE doesn't mean you're safe.

Internet Explorer has better support for plugins than FireFox does. I still have to go on IE to play vitalize games or javascript - even if you search for the plugins on FF it doesn't find them.

vitalize works fine on my firefox 1.0 if you download and install the .exe from clickteam. also to get java (not javascript, that's innate) to work all you need to do is download the sun java plugin which is available on the plugins page - https://update.mozilla.org/plugins/ .
firefox is better. theres no popups, i never have to type in my user names or passwords, it has tabs and its icons are better. phizzy is fat, brad from natomic used to give out andy uk's dc password, liquixcat likes men, chicken is a wannabe jason delucia who is a gayfag and kris reads articles on bootsmarketing.

I think if IE users gave it the "MMF Challenge" (where TGF users use MMF only for a week) and just used firefox only for a week, they'd love it. Try middle clicking links and using the tabs.
Only problem I used to have with FireFox is when I ran it while running fullscreen games, it would crash on me, but it seemed to stop. Dont know about your bookmark problem, but its only happened to me once & that was because it said my profile was corrupt.
Don't listen to Brandon, he got dropped on his head when he was a child.
But seriously, Internet Explorer isn't that bad anymore, everyone immediately associates spyware and malware with it, but i've never experienced either, unlike Brandon (although I don't visit gay male porn websites so that may be why).
The only way you'll get diallers and shiz now is if you purposefully right click on the "Item blocked" message and then click install. If you do that, you're stupid.
Ok, someone tell me how I suddenly became the victom of this post, I'm not the only one standing up for FireFox & Herb, I dont know what the hell your problem is, but oviously it wouldnt be right to poke at someone with mental issues, so I'll leave no comment to your post & hope an admin comes & brings this topic to a close, its getting out of control.
I like firefox. Images load up much better, and the screen doesnt jump about when doing so. It blocks spyware, adware and pop-ups and has many features that windows has.
No one said I was bullying anyone about using FireFox, just simply stating what everyone should know. Yes IE isnt bad, but FireFox is so much better. Those will be my last words in this topic, because like I said, its getting out of hand & I dont want to be a part of it.
How can you live using internet explorer without tabs or mouse gestures. Not to mention the fact IE and explorer are so tightly integrated forms extremely bad security threats. I think I've seen more plugins for FF than I have seen for IE...and some are so much fun, like the Department of Homeland Insecurity Idiocy level.
As a boy, I wanted to be a train. I didn’t realize this was unusual—that other kids played with trains, not as them.
I don't think there'a anything particularly bad about Internet Explorer, except maybe for the non-standard way it supports certain web formats. The security issue is partly due to its popularity, i.e. it's the only browser people bother to find security holes in.
Having said that, I think that Firefox is much, much better. The combination of tabs and mouse gestures makes browsing so much easier, and there are so many small things that I immediately miss when using IE. Call it 'training wheels' if you must, but it's better than walking.
I personally use IE for simplicity, although when developing webpages I always use Firefox (for compatability. I find usually if it looks good in IE, it may not look good in FF. But if it looks good in FF, chances are it looks good in everything else too).
IE is nasty and outdated. But heck, when I start to mind, I'll switch. Until then I see no reason to change software just to stop geeks complaining at my choice of browser.
Seriously, it's hillarious to see how far some people take this. I've met people who are *so* violently opposed to IE that they physically shake while they denounce it. Two words:
People using Internet Explorer is really bad from a web developer's perspective. It's very hard to make use of some features because instead of simply not including them Microsoft has just put in some poor implementations of them.
Blah blah spyware magnet, blah blah auto downloads viruses blah....
IE does NOT auto install spyware, unless youre a complete retard who clicks yes to everything, IE SP2 is a substantial upgrade and reverses its policy on active X (Pre SP2 itd put it down to you to install, post SP2 will prevent you and give you the proper warning before installing)
I use Firefox for the tabbed browsing, and it loads pages better (also dosent freeze when you press stop on pages)
Im all for standards, but if it works on all browsers with some rule breaking its fine by me. (People get stupidly anal over something as trivial as using ID instead of name in tags) *sigh*
"brad from natomic used to give out andy uk's dc password"
thats news to me, well my password was 'Andrew' its not anymore of course.
I don't care what browsers there are out there, i did loads on web browsers at college and I still use internet explorer. I have tried others including netscape and firefox but i always go back to ie.
The only thing I dislike about Firefox is that sometimes when I'm typing a webaddress (say, b3ta.co.uk), when I click the automatic list that comes up, it just loads "b" instead of "b3ta.co.uk." This is really annoying.
If wishes were fishes then we'd all smell like ladies' underwear.
Firefox is so much better than IE if you have dial-up, and its still better if you have high speed too. Because it gets so much less spyware, surfs faster and a whck of other stuff.
well, once I restart my computer, IE should see every standard protocol as an illegal zone, rendering it completly uselss

Opera's a bit of a box of tricks. I like the "emulate text browser" view, but there's loads and loads of little gimmicks that don't really do a lot. The ad window is annoying too. Opera as a developer's tool is good; as a primary browser, I wouldn't use it.
microfot have gone a bit over the top, forcing us to use IE though. eg, you can't uninstall it, and if you delete its files, they reappear seconds later.
I prefer to use firefox, but i do use internet explorer for windows update, since microsoft are disallowing any other browser to use that either.
(Or in Windows XP go into add remove programs, click the add/remove windows components tab on the left side, look for IE, disable, done.)
Well you CAN technically remove Internet explorer.
I use firefox, not because of spyware scares, and backdoors, because I rarely came in contact with em, but because It looks cleaner, and I really(!) like tabbed browsing.
And I dont use opera because its just too clunky for me.
'" I didnt even know what firefox was before I read this post- nor do I care! "
i didnt know you are an ignorant idiot. if i didnt know better i would say you are a redneck.'
Ofcourse you knew I was an ignorant idiot! You knew that ever since I told I didn't find you comic funny.
Redneck or not, I dont really care what type of internet browser I'm using, and its nothing to get all huffy and puffy about least ways.
Ofcourse, theres nothing wrong with people arguing their case for their respective browser of choice, but with communities like this, the companies need not bother with advertising!
And when people take things personally, as if it's offensive to them that someone half way around the world wont run the same program as them, it really starts to miff me.
And gay bash all you want, MasterM, when you're on the other side of the planet it doesnt really bother me.
'oh yeah? he's thrown a kettle over a pub, what have you done?'
"How can a web browser be gay? Does it accept HTTP requests on outbound connections?"
Not necessarily. I don't think IE is gay, I think it's female - well, I can't understand its logic, anyway...
It is a load of crap that some users are more stupid than others just based on the internet browser they use. Let people use what they want and come with constructive reasons about what is good about the browser you use.
Personally I still use IE. I have tried Firefox several times during the beta period, and of course version 1.0. Yes, Firefox is generally fast, allthough it is not always the case. However speed is not all that matters, and thats where I find Firefox troublesome. Some websites will not show properly or not at all, meaning you have to have 2 webbrowser running to cover all your needs. I know it is not always the fault of Firefox, but even HTML code which conform to standards (ie HTML 4.01) sometimes look a little odd in Firefix compared to IE.
Using IE does not mean you automatically recieve viruses, spyware etc. With SP2, the security is pretty good. Sure, there may be security holes, but Firefox just got updated to eliminate a few security holes, so you are not entirely secure not matter what you choose.
I say. Let it be up to the individual to choose. I cannot decide for anyone.
ok, so firefox is for 'advanced users' and is 'like a spaceshit compared to IE', and when i say firefox is horrible, brandon wittingly stabs back with it being "something else that is horrible"....
advanced users wouldn't get virus' on IE.
but, I will take the firefox challenge....report back later.
thinking is like pong, it's easy, but you miss sometimes.
it's not that bad...the 'tab' system isn't that awesome, many people may have forgotten but beside that start button are tabs...but other then that they are the same...i managed to get an error when i went to a site i knew would give IE a virus and it shut down firefox...but no virus...very nice.
i say use either...idiots won't get virus' on IE. so idiots should use firefox...but if you are average intelligence...both work fine
thinking is like pong, it's easy, but you miss sometimes.
First of all, those aren't tabs on the start bar. They're different windows. Functionally similar, but completely different things.
You're also missing half the fun of Firefox--the extensions. There are addons for just about anything you could want. For example I've got something called Mouse Gestures, which is awesome. Basically you hold down the right mouse button and wiggle it to perform functions without using the menus. Whenever I come onto the boards here, I hold down right-click, drag it over the names of all the forums, the do a quick right-up-left movement and all the boards open in separate tabs. Hella useful.
I use firefox. But something bothers me about the security. Surely as its open source, any hacker can get hold of the source code, thus making it EASIER to find security holes. On has been found in the JavaScript engine recently.
I do like firefox though. The tabs make forum browsing hella easy.
Zane: It also means that far more people are availible to check the code for holes and patch them up long before a new version is released. Plus it isn't compartmentalized: while Microsoft QA are separate from the guys who spot security flaws (which tends to be the end user, truth be told); the Firefox coders, testers, users (and exploiters) are all the same people.
