hi,

OiP is a puzzle platformer. Your objective is to collect all stars in a level and the reach the goal flag. This game was made kinda like a sequel for Pencil & Paper (2007), and although the style is quite different from the first part, I've tried to keep at least almost the same atmosphere as in the prequel. For the story, there isn't anything like that in this game, since this is a puzzle game.

CONTROLS

Arrows: Move (When using different gravities, you use different arrows to move around. For
example, if you're walking on a wall, you use up and down arrows to navigate, and when you're
walking on the floor, you use basic left & right arrows to move.)
Button 1(Basically shift, can be changed by pressing ctrl + Y): jump
Button 2(Basically control): Change direction of gravity (Check the System chapter for more info.)
Mouse: Select things

CREDITS

Thanks to RPGMaker 2000 for the sound effects!
Thanks for Clickteam for creating an awesome game-making software, Multimedia Fusion!
Special and unbelievably big thanks go to NICKLAS 'NIFFLAS' NYGREN for creating the music to this game! Thank you!
Also, thanks to me (Arvi 'Hempuli' Teikari) for making this game
Smaller thanks go to Nintendo for releasing Super Mario Galaxy, which gave me an idea for this game!

Update log:

-Redone level 14
-New controls invented
-Some flaws fixed

Super fun!

I have the keys mapped to my gamepad and I'm having a blast! Thanks for the udpate of an already great game!

It depends on which way the guy is facing. If guy's direction is upright, left arrow moves left and right arrow moves right.

If guy's direction is to the right (as in, gravity is pulling you to the left of the screen), left arrow moves guy upwards and right arrow moves him downwards.

The opposite goes for when he's pointing to the left, and when he's upsidedown the controls are reversed from the upright system. So basically right arrow will always move him to HIS right, whatever direction that may be for us.

Sorry, didn't see that you had updated it. Perfect! That update is excellent! Thanks!

I love how the game makes me feel disoriented... just like a game in outer space should. I've really never felt that in a game before that I can remember...

I'd give you another 5 stars if I could.

I only wish that the arrows on the stars were a little more visible... different color maybe?

I wish I had written this game.

Thank you a lot guys! That kinda comments really make my day

Another update: level number 14 has been totally changed! The first one was really horrible!

You really have a knack for creating simple but stylish graphics and addictive gameplay, Hempuli. Nice

Just one suggestion so far: it's a bit hard to see the arrows in the stars.

Posted by Hempuli 1st December, 2007

Yeah, that has been complained more than once. I'll change that.

Yet another update!
-arrows in the stars are now white!

It's good and that, but the controls throw it off for me. Movement seems much too fast and twitchy I think.

Innovative game play and graphics Well done

Posted by ~Zigzag~ 2nd December, 2007

I'm not going to rate this, because although it was an alright game, I was playing at midnight so I lost horribly...

Improvement on the movement to make it less twitchy would be good.

This game looks soooo sweet but I am too lazy to download it...

5 STARS

And thanks for the comments btw

Sorry for the triple post, but yet another (hopefully the last) update:
Nifflas kindly improved the music and the sound effects, so now the game sounds better

This is pretty good.
I think I solved some puzzles through engine bugs... or if I was supposed to do them like that, silly design. I didn't really like having to click on each star to start a level, either.

Posted by Hempuli 4th December, 2007

Engine bugs? Tell a bit more what kinda.

Although a complete rip-off of Mario Galaxy, still a very impressive game. Very well done, fun, and most of all, challenging.

Complete rip-off? What are you talking about?

Posted by Hempuli 11th December, 2007

Oh, and thanks Shroomie! that 'smart cookie' really made me smile

And thanks for all the comments here!

This is quite a fun game, even though it gets hard quickly. I like the music a lot too (go Nifflas!). Part of it (the music) reminds me of a track on Katamari Damacy called Blue Orb.

thanks

One thing I would've done differently is have the stars collectable by any gravity direction, and then maybe introduce the gravity-specific stars later in the game. It is a little frustrating sometimes, and its hard to make out the arrows.

simple and entertaining

Posted by Hempuli 13th December, 2007

Thanks alperoz!

xerus, I've tried to make the arrows easier to see
But yeah, they can be a bit confusing, but I think adding also star that can be collected in every gravity would have just made the game more confusing. Also I suck at doing easy levels ;_;

So... it's hard, but fun 4/5

Okay game, though I wish the arrow keys would always be "Left arrow" makes him go left based on his POV.

This is good times, man. I thought it was wonderfully done. The graphics are great, and getting Nifflas to do the music was brilliant. He does good stuff.

My one question: Why is the folder labelled "OiP"?

This is one trippy piece of vidjamagame, you managed to rip off Super Mario Galaxy without being blatantly obvious! What with the gravity changing and the stars, and the way you fly to each level... Still, 5/5

Posted by X_Sheep 22nd January, 2008

Found a bug: When you touch the flag when you have all stars, you can still be killed. But you won't go back to the starting point, which means you immediately lose all lives at once. =/

X_Sheep, thanks for noticing that. Must fix it.
Thanks Torava, I didn't notice that.

Great idea. Imho the gravity is a tad bit fast, would have liked a bit more of a floating enertia effect, still good fun.
