In February 2007, I participated in a 3-week competition over at Retro Remakes (http://www.retroremakes.com ) and "A Mini Falafel Adventure" was my entry. The aim of the competition was to create a game based on the T1 Calculator. This means: 4 colours, greyscale, 160*100 resolution and a general retro theme.

The game is a single-screen platformer with an emphasis on exploration, gameplay progression, and disco music. I used an array level loader because that seems to be what all the cool kids are doing these days.

It's not a particularly long game, to say the least; about 10-15 minutes if you're playing it for the first time and 5 minutes if you know what to do.

If you die, you go back to the title screen. In retrospect, I probably should have added a restart point after the sub-boss, but on the other hand I'm also of the opinion that modern games spoon-feed us save points every ten seconds.However, it won't take you long to get back to where you were since it's not a large game.

The music is by Reed Richards (http://reed.cc ) and is used with permission.

I don't need to give reason for my rating just like you don't have to give a reason to rate it 5 stars.

I'm quite insulted that you guys assume I'm just doing it to lower the game's placing. I actually noticed it had been bumped to 1st place and re downloaded it, then realized i hadn't rated it yet.

however I will write a review for the game explaining why i decided to give it 3 stars instead of just over hyping it like you lot are doing.

When you give a game 5 stars it's clearly because you enjoyed the game to the max, giving it any less demands an explanation as to what is wrong with it. You seem to be trolling TDC looking for trouble nowadays, perhaps work on a kirby sequel?

No it doesn't. The whole point in the rating system is because some people are too lazy to write a review. I'll admit not writing anything is not very helpful but that is exactly what you did. A smiley is not a comment.

I'm not trolling, i'm just fed up with people overhyping every little game because it's got a custom engine and a cute main character.

The game is too small to be worth 5 stars, there isn't enough variety to warrant 5 stars, it's too easy to give 5 stars too and the graphics aren't good enough to give 5 stars too.

I like it and enjoyed playing it, and 3 stars is a pretty good score for it...

Try contributing something yourself before you start telling me what do to here.

Btw i'm going to give streetwise a fair review later on too.

AndyUK, it seems that you're really going out of your way just to beat this game down and I don't know why. Thanks for visiting yet again to make sure that no one is allowed to write positively about this game without a retort from you.

I'm pretty sure you've already made your point in the 2 lengthy comments you wrote on this page and in your review, not to mention the comments you're continuing to leave under other reviews. I wonder if you could just accept that some people actually like the game?

Is it not obvious enough that I'm trying to be objective? Instead of blurting out useless praise time and time again to drown out anything critical?

I like the game for god sake, ive said that already. Also anything I do write is usually a retort against some retarded comment someone has said because they're upset over my difference of opinion.

Once again, I like the game.

I'm going to rate this game 4. It's VERY polished, it has a nice little feature with the explosive things throwing you up into the air, the music is nice, the sound effects well placed... but it's too short for my liking and the graphics, although it suits the game, it's just too simplistic for my liking.

So yeah, for what it is it's perfect, but it's what it ISN'T that I'm rating it 'down'. A sequel with more graphics and gameplay would gain another star from me

I personally loved this! Down-rating is not acceptable and shouldn't have to happen. Please make a sequel! And finally, falafels are somewhat like dry vego-meatballs, though still likeable.

It was quite enjoyable, but I didn't like some of the level design where there were obstactles on the edges of the screen, and the afro boss was too hard to get past.

Well, this is definitely not top downloads material. A very solid game with consistent retro design, but the graphics are not that impressive. Actually, I would call some aspects of them weak. And on the end, the game is mini without much replay value.

I guess a lot of people prefer quick and dirty pleasure type of games, but I am not one of them.

I think the problem with the ratings on this site is that so many games were/are over-scored by users that a very solid score of 3/5 is considered an insult.
