Update - Colour coded weapons, portal network
Posted 26th Feb 12, by HitmanN
Progress continues. Since last update, I've done quite a bit of small stuff.

I went through all the bug reports and minor tweaks that the testers had reported, and fixed all of those that I knew where to look a solution for. The internal Bug Tracker is looking pretty empty right now, aside from the leftovers.

I also tweaked the camera, smoothing out the motion, and all testers have been satisfied with this change.

Screenshot 1 - Colour-coded weapons
A familiar feature from Diablo and MMORPG's. The colour of an item's name tells of its rarity value. In Twisted Tower there are now five colours, which are, from worst to best:

* Grey - Weapon has more negative than positive features
* White - Standard rarity, usually nothing noteworthy
* Blue - Fairly good bonuses
* Yellow - Unique weapons (somewhere between blue and purple in strength)
* Purple - Considerably high bonuses

Whether a colour is applied depends on the bonuses on the weapon, compared to character's current level. So, when you're level 5 and find a weapon with ATK+2 and DEF+3, it could be a blue weapon, but if you find a weapon with the same stats when you're level 15, it'll probably be white instead. The colour gives an idea of what sort of bonuses are of best degree you can at the time find for your character.

Screenshot 2 - Inventory tweaks
While doing the colour-coded weapons, I also tweaked the inventory screen, giving the weapon data much more horizontal space, and better separating information and bonuses for easier viewing. The character attributes also got more space.

Screenshot 3 - Portal Network
Previously every two-way portal pair between tower and the base of the tower had their own portals. This meant three, possibly even four portals at the base of the tower, each leading to a different floor in the tower. Overall, no biggie, but it could get tedious to remember which went where. So... I combined them all into one portal, which pops up a list of destinations in the tower. The mechanic itself was easy to do, but the fancy-pants in me wanted to decorate the portal destination list with glowing symbols 'n stuff. I also made an eerie-ish hum play on the background.

There's been lots of other small stuff too, but that should do for now.
