New Text graphics + music samples + artwork + additions!
Posted 10th Aug 09, by Solgryn
Hey everyone! Thanks for all your feedback at the first video and at the game. I've been busy at work with Blob III, mainly fixing minor bugs, but also creating music, artwork and other stuff! Go on and read the rest to find out.

Graphics:

I've been making some graphic changes on the text like "Level Clear!" and "Owned!". I think it's tons better. What do you think of the difference? You can look at the before and after pictures at the screenshot area over to the right, leave a comment tell me what you think =D.

Music:

As some of you may know, I've been talking about making my own music for Blob III, as I used ripped music for my last game. But with costum music it makes stuff lots better, now I just need to be able to create music. Been making some music samples in Fruity loops and I think they turned out pretty good, considering the fact that I've never used fruity loops before .
You can download them here:

http://www.rtgkom.dk/~jesperae08/BlobIIIBetaMusic.zip

Personally I like CandyLand 2 the best =, also like the BlobIIIBossMusic2. Tell me what you think =D.

Artwork:

Made some artwork for the different enemies and also for Blib! The new companion who will follow blob around (as you may have seen in the video). Blib will flash red if you have 1 HP left, and be normal color if you have 2 HP.

You can see them in the screenshot area:
Blob and Blib
Jumpar Concept
Skeleton King art

Bugs/fixes/additions:

Also fixed some minor bugs in the engine, such as collision difficulties and such.
Made it possible to die if being crushed by a moving platform (stand under one and it going downwards, causing you to be crushed).
Made Icy-physics, if you stand on certain areas, your acceleration/deacceleration will decrease, your acc/decc in air will also be affected but as soon as you land on normal ground again, they will go back to normal.
New enemies: Jumpar and Purpo. Read about them in the description.

Music matches perfectly!

Nice to hear =D

You seriouly need to get a new host. It's taking like 7 minutes for something that should have been done in 1

Posted by alastair john jack 10th August, 2009

are you using original sound effects too?

Posted by Solgryn 10th August, 2009

well 50/50, some of them are ripped.

Hmm, to tell you the truth, I don't like any of the music, the only good one is generic beat and that doesn't count.

You need some chord changes and then a melody line and a beat for a good song.

Everything else is just noise.

Yea but I've been having trouble with that, kinda hard to do since I havnt used the program for very long. And I'm not quite used to compose music, but I appriciate your honesty.

Y'know, a simple AI partner for some levels would be a really cool addition. I could help with the coding, if you'd like.

I will definitely vote this for GOTM. I was thinking, maybe add some randomization because after you memorize all the traps in the game, you can complete it with a low amount of deaths. Such as I beat Blob's adventure with only 1 death (It was that jetpack level against the Skeleton King > ) and Blob's Adventure 2 with only 17 deaths. The Zombie King was the only thing that took me a death. And that was just because of poor collision detection between Blob and his tongue, as well as having to reset because his arm fell off and he wasn't doing anything. I had the same problem with the skeleton King remix. Anyways, Randomness is good!

On a seperatenote, What program did you use for the music? It sounds really good, and I really need some original music for my games! Of course a lot can be attributed to all your talent.

Good work on the text, it's a lot clearer to read. Can't wait!

Thanks again everyone =D I know I say thanks alot, but your comments really means alot to me.

Not A Taco: The Randomness is a cool idea, I will definitely add that one.

The program I use for the music is Fruity Loops Studios 8. Using a demo version atm, but you can still use all the tools and stuff, u just cant save your "project". But you can export it as mp3 and stuff =D.

RedEchidna: The AI partner, it sounds like a nice addition. Maybe I can add it in some special levels if I can get it to work. Will think about it.

There are all sorts of tutorials on Youtube for FLs. I personally like warbeats tutorials the best. The others are just, this is how I made 'x' track. Oh, and if your worried about losing your work, you can "save". Just remember, or type down, your vsts and whatever else you need, then export as midi. When your ready to work on it again, just reload the midi, and plug back in your vsts to the original spots! (Some of you are going to say, just buy the program, but meh, I'm cheap.) Also, if you think you need some new vsts, just google for them. Now that the downloads finished, I'll have a review later.
Good luck!

Lets start simple. First off I'll say this once. NEVER USE WAVS! At least as far as uploads are concerned. DO not ever use a wav file for downloading again. Ever. Okay, I'll go with the small beats first. It might be a good idea to try and combine the bonus level with the generic beat. I hear those two and they might sound good together. CaveKinda, that sounds unfinished. The last note section bothers me a bit, but the notes feel like they have some holes in them somewhere. DingDongOne sounds a bit like a Mario, except near the end. Fix that!
Now for the BlobIIIBossmusic. Why do you stutter it? You could do a lot with it! Personally, I'd make it sound like the Ghostbusters a bit, but not so much. Unless this is a puzzle game, I'd work on the "boss" music a bit. Main osses are these huge, scary looking freaks that try to devour the character. Music should go along with that. Right now, I'd fall asleep if the boss wasn't trying to kill me. However, I do have to say that Candyland1, SorrowCity, and Wierdland are the most complete, and best tracks. The BlobIIIbossmusics thought are fun sounding, the second one reminence of ToeJam&Earl for the Sega Genesis. They could all use some work. But definity going in the right direction for now. Keep it up!

Thanks for your review =D And I agree about the .wav stuff, but didnt really noticed the .wavs and just slammed it together in a zip, I'll try and pay attention to that next time. But many of the stuffs was first time using the program and didnt quite knew how to do the beats and stuff and put it together.

And the BlobIIIbossmusics I made today, aswell as the candyland ones. Got a little better at the program. wierdland and sorrow city is basicly one instrument.
Basicly I just half-assed the boss musics since I needed to go and I couldnt save so I just slammed 2 different instruments in there But thanks again on your feedback, I really appreciate it.

Any time! Just remember that little midi trick every now and then. I figured it the tracks were a little unfinished, so I tried to crit them based on that. Not bad for stuff made just today.
