******** WALL JUMP STYLE ********
Posted 8th Jun 09, by MBK
I currently have a wall jump added, but it's more like a double jump that can only be done while in the air and against the wall and only if no arrows are held in. .. sorta

So ... I need some advice on wall jumps. What is the best style? ... Should I make it a wrestling style where you jump away from the wall and perform an aerial diving attack? Or perhaps a ninja style where you do a backflip off the wall then if you hit the attack key during the backflip sequence, it performs an attack? Or should I leave it the way it is, as a sort of double jump straight up?

I'm thinking about making the wall jump act differently depending upon what keys are pressed and what speed you are at (running, walking, stopped) and perhaps what the current direction is. Then it would basically be many wall jumps that you can choose to use as you please during gameplay.

I know this is just an engine right now an' all, but if you guys n' gals would be kind enough to give me some feedback, and comment often, it truly would be nice and beneficial to all those wishing to learn how to make this sort of thing.
(myself included, as I'm learning as I go)

Like ninja would be very nice for me. I also think that different action can be cool.

Figures, you would pick the hardest one to implement!
Now how am I gonna be lazy and just leave it as is?

See that folks ... you have power over what happens in a project when you comment on it.
I was going to take the easy way out until Sire posted what he would like to see. So comment more everyone!

Thank You for the reply Sire. You're project is looking good btw, hope you make a demo soon so we can see a rough sketch of how it will play.

Ok, Now I have a running wall jump, walking wall jump, and of course the first one I did, the stationary wall jump.
But I still have to create all the sprites for the animations ... ... maybe a nice pixel artist will help me out sose I can toss up this next opensource for everyone to see a little bit quicker?

The next wall jump I'll tackle will be off of the small section that is the side of the wall ... this may prove difficult, so lets hope it works out well.
I'm not so sure that I should make wall jumps for the backside of the wall, as it might be more interesting to use it as a way to hide from enemies instead.
(plus if I did the jumping off the back of the wall, I'd have to turn the walls invisible when behind them so you can even see where your jumping, AND make yet even more animations, bleh)
