Project Overview
Do not try to understand the basis of this game. The whole thing comes from something that goes down at my college's hockey games. But I'll try to throw you the basics anyway:

You play as a hockey player who's only mission is to savage the country side using the power of the legendary weapon... the Bonesaw. There will be a lot of levels, and some bosses, and some collectables. Players can beat the crap out of their enemies using their arms, legs, hockey sticks, and the Bonesaw.

Doing damage and taking damage fills up your "Bonesaw Bar" and when it's full then you are able to summon forth the epic weapon and spread destruction across your foes.

Hidden within each level are 3 "Golden Pucks" Collecting these pucks will make your bonesaw meter charge at a faster rate, and may even unlock some secrets.

One thing that I really enjoy about this game is the fact that I was able to construct the platform engine without using fast loops or collision detector objects. It works pretty well, and you can see what it can do in the video. (It doesnt do that much, but enemies get flung around and what not when you hit them)

Enough with the reading, heres a video:

And my site with a post about it lol:

So what's next?

So Bonesaw: The Game, version 1.1, is out on the internet with some small fixes (and one sort of major one that broke the game just a little bit.) If you havent gotten that version yet, go ahead and download it from my site: http://www.kylepulver.com/bonesaw

It looks like things are going pretty well. I think the combat system and the game itself turned out to be a little harder than most players expected, so some people are turned off by that mostly, so I'm going to look into to any potential changes I can make there-- but don't get too excited because the combat is pretty deeply coded into the game engine, across 200 frames... oh boy.

I'm going to continue to work on Bonesaw a little bit, to get some fixes and patches out for some of the things that I overlooked. I had to release it before GDC though, that was my goal, and I did. I even met some people there that had played, or just heard of my game, and that was pretty awesome.

I have a lot planned for some more games, a couple of group projects with some friends of mine and one that I might end up doing solo (another freeware title most likely.) The solo project will most likely be another epic 2d platformer game, but that's all I'll say for now.

Oh and I played Noitu Love 2 at the IGF pavillion at GDC... holy crap, it is awesome. I wish I could be a master at pixel art and MMF2 like Konjak. ;D

Ooo, how dramatic a title. It is though, a dramatic situation!

I've been working on this graphics glitch all day, and I narrowed it down to the culprits "Backdrop 37" and "Backdrop 128"

I've moved them off the frame, and replaced them with backdrops made from new backdrop objects (not clones or anything) and I think *deep breath!* I've fixed it.

If all goes according to plan, and schedule, some form of the Bonesaw game will be online tomorrow (Thursday, Feb 14th)

If something bad happens again (which it might, but at this point the current release candidate build I have out there doesnt seem to be glitching) then you may get what I'll call a "Public beta" or I might push it back and release a demo. However, the pushing back idea isnt really what I want to do since I want to release this game after keeping it to myself and my beta testers for so long!

Check back tomorrow for the word.
Potentially bad news

Remember how I was talking about that graphics glitch that was ruining everything, and Clickteam *still* doesnt know what it is?

Well, back then I eventually fixed it by reverting to about 20 versions back, and redoing my lost work.

Now suddenly while working on the last bit of content needed for the game, the bug returns. Backdrops are being replaced with player sprites, and stuff is just going CRAZY.

I dont know whats causing it, and Yves hasnt looked at my source .mfa since sending it to him two months ago...

So yeah, this is really, really depressing. I dont think any of the main levels are messed up, but the intro sequence is... I guess worst come to worst I just scrap the whole intro tutorial level.

Ugh...
The next few days are KEY.

Notice the progress bar? Its sitting nicely at "99%"

I'd just like to announce that I'm just working on the last little bits of polish on the game, and soon enough it will be online for the downloadin'!

See you in a few days!
