Project Overview
It's been quite a while since I submitted anything to the site, so I thought I'd give an update of what I've been spending time on (apart from the overwhelming software project that I've got to do this year, of course.)

I've always been rather uninspired then it comes to naming games - the name "Crystal Towers" was made up on the spot when the time came to write its preview. This project was known as "Random Platform Game Experiment" when it was started, but has been called "Treasure Tower" for a while. This is the best name that I can come up with even though it's uncomfortably close to the last title I released - nevertheless, I'm open to suggestions.

This will be a much more simple game than my last project as far as gameplay is concerned, but it's more technically involved. As implied by the working title, the object is to work your way through a tower that's built at random from a library of rooms, collecting as much treasure as possible along the way. The challenge comes from the clock - as can be seen from the screenshots, this large timer is displayed on every screen and you'll fall to bits spectacularly when it reaches midnight. The good news is that you'll be able to top up the timer by finding food inside the tower.

"Treasure points" are gained through collecting tokens, reaching the exit of a room or getting to the top of a tower and finding one of the randomly named treasures. These points can be used to unlock more challenging towers, and therefore a greater variety of rooms. The rooms themselves will vary in design from simple platforming to more puzzle-based obstacles, depending on the tower selected.

The music will be a combination of the usual stuff from me, and some fairly unusual stuff from Scott Joplin.

At the moment, there are 90 rooms in the game, and I hope to have about two hundred of them by the time I release it. Depending on how little I work on it, the release date could be anything from about February onwards, but I would say that the beginning of the summer is a more realistic estimate.
