Project Overview
Preview This is a J RPG being made in The Games Factory 2 by myself. It is a turn-based J RPG with ideas inspired by the Star Ocean series. The graphics are 3D modelled and rendered into sprites and background images, but isometric and I'm trying to simulate a slightly 3D look.

Plot:A mission from earth has gone wrong, where a crew finds themselves lost in space - they have been lost in space for a few years trying to get back in contact with earth. Alas no such findings. A member on their ship gradually because mentally ill until breaking and attacking one of the members. You, the ship's captain have to take him out. In this commotion they fail to notice a planet they crash land into - leaving only a couple of survivors. Luckily the planet has livable conditions for human beings, where they make contact with human-like extra terrestrials, who have a problem themselves. A monster goes to attack a few of the villagers, you step in and manage to take it down. The villagers are impressed and whilst they cannot speak to you in their tongue, you are capable of communication - your crew members need help repairing the ship and they need you to help them solve a problem of their own, thus an agreement is made.

Current Progress:

Plot point - Meeting people in the village. Talk to Tabala
Features - Battle System works and allows usage of items/intventory as well, but currently there is no skill system
Graphics - 3D rendered backgrounds. 2D sprites (changed - 3D rendered sprites is not the best route)

[UPDATE] Change in background renders

Characters:
Captain Zach
Image
Character info:
Race: Human
Home: Earth
Info: Was made captain at the age of 20, has a wife and a daughter living on earth. His daughter was 2 years old when he left, she would be now 9 years old. His main aim is to get back home and see them. He is a strong leader, though sometimes he doesn't always think ahead of himself, whilst he is a patient man, his actions usually only consider the short term benefits, which in some ways makes him weak.

THE GRAPHICS:

3D Rendered Backgrounds in Carrara 5 Pro
Textures from various texture packs and myself (using Paint.NET)
Characters made using the CharasProject
Anything UI in Paint.Net

LANGUAGE:

When we see space exploration on a game or on TV, it's just convenient that everybody can speak English, though of course we get some that work around it by having 'translating devices' or of course, the babelfish. I've decided instead to make it a part of the game - the player has to learn certain concepts of a native language in order to know what to do next. Learning the languages shouldn't be too difficult. As the character would be visiting more than 1 civilisation, they'll be in different stage of 'development', so on the first planet we have an undeveloped civilisation that has ideographic script, which means it makes it easy for you learn the words, because there's a symbol to go with each one, for example:

This phrase is important in helping the villagers, who in turn will help you, but you'll have to learn a few extra words of your own to tell them what you need.

Update 10th September

I have added a few bits of information to the original post as well as some new screenshots.

The final render shot isn't finished, because I am still added more and more objects to make it more homey. Also, I need to add the villagers, at the moment we only have 2 characters in the village.
