Project Overview
-- Story --

Since I first posted this project, I've made quite a bit of progress on the story. It's still not quite finished (still working on the plots of later missions), but I think I've got the general stuff worked out. Here's how it goes so far:

There are two countries on this made-up world, Thiden and Pueros. Thiden is your typical, power-hungry empire, while Pueros is a more peaceful nation. Thiden decides to invade Pueros completely out of the blue and Pueros, being completely unprepared, goes down pretty quickly. That's not to say that Thiden didn't take their fair share of casualties. The Thidenese military is pretty badly dented up at the end of the war. Now Thiden couldn't have picked a worse time to invade a country because only a few weeks after the Puerian surrender comes an alien invasion! What are the aliens after? Who knows, maybe they just like attacking stuff. I'm not sure if they're going to have a real motive yet... >_>

So needless to say, you spend the course of the game trying to rid the world of your spontaneous invaders. Performing well in missions unlocks additional, (more positively-ending) plot branches. For example, in Mission 1 your character, Andrew Fortin, is trying to send Puerian weapon files back to Thiden. If you succeed, then Thiden gets a fancy new aircraft to test out on the alien attackers. If you're gunned down before it completes, then the file is lost forever and the world loses a powerful new weapon. You will be able to access any branch at any time through the level select screen, (wouldn't want anyone missing out on anything) so don't worry about messing up on your first try.

And one last thing, I really need to decide on this game's name. I'm kinda happy with it now, I guess, but at the same time I'd kinda like to add something more to it...

-- Gameplay --

The object of the game is to get the high score by enduring a given boss battle. Points are given based on time, damage dealt to the boss, and other factors. Once you score enough points, your rank will increase. As your rank increases, the battle will become more difficult. Random powerups will appear every so often giving you health, ammo, and bonus points. Also hidden in each fight are extras. These award points for performing certain feats, such as narrowly dodging a shot.

I now have an official mission total; 15. That's a little over double the 7 I originally wanted.

-- Other Features --

Well, I'm going to implement an online leaderboard, because the game would just feel incomplete without one. I'm also toying with the idea of an "extras" section, but I really don't think I'll have the motivation to make one once the main 15 missions are through.

-- Completion List --

- Story / Game Title
- Menu
- Mission 1 Cutscene

Some Screenshots and a Kind-Of Demo
Posted 4th Jun 09, by Mental_Block 2 Comments
So it's been a while since I made a post for this project, and in that time I've made a lot of progress. Here are some screenshots showing what I've gotten done in the past few weeks:

The last screenshot is from Mission 2A, which I'm currently working on. Speaking of which, here's my current progress on that level:

I know it's nowhere even close to being complete, but I'm so happy with what I have so far I couldn't help but post it. Feel free to leave any thoughts or comments.

I'm posting this demo to look for input on how I'm doing so far. This demo is basically everything I've done on the project up to this point. Also, keep in mind that a lot of the design and stuff isn't final. I also apologize for no sound.

If you have any comments or ideas, send me a PM or make a post in the project forum. Oh, and feel free to tell me about any bugs you find.
