I saw one site which had the little 'Internet Explorer' icon on the address bar a picture of their own... http://www.freewebspace.net/forums/showthread.php?t=53637

Does anybody know how to do this on my own site...?

<link rel="icon" href="icon.gif" type="image/gif" />

add that into the head part of the HTML document. it doesn't work in later versions of IE.

It's called a favicon and has been in Internet Explorer since version 4 (and other browsers). Internet Explorer only gets the icon when you bookmark the website, but Firefox/Netscape/etc. gets the icon the first time you visit the page.

and as far as I know, only "oprah" (my friends name for opera) can use non icon files for favicons

As a boy, I wanted to be a train. I didn’t realize this was unusual—that other kids played with trains, not as them.

It works in Internet Explorer 6, and i didnt think you had to put any code into your webpage? You need to make an icon named favico.ico or favicon.ico. and i think it can only be a certain number of colours also, although im not too sure do a google search on it and youll be able to find out on how to configure one into your webpage.

If you don't have the code, the browser will look in the root for the favicon.ico file (/favicon.ico) which is no good if you're residing in a folder.
