a platform car racing game with gravity as realistic as possible... like the warthog in halo or something. or adjustable gravity, so if you hit a slope you go x feet in the air depending on your speed and the current gravity. t'would be a great test of coding skill for all those non-graphicy persons.

I like that idea Pete. Who would enter if the comp was something similar to Pete's suggestion? I've always been a big fan of realistic physics.

Screensaver compo, screensaver compo! (I like Snerlin's idea)

Or an all greyscale game compo.

Platform car racing? As in, a similar perspective to something like Sideswipe? Sounds good

What about a sort of Battle-Themed game. Or some sort monkey-themed game (they seem just to populor, maybe it will get it out of everyone's system!)

Hah, what a coincidence, my friend was making a realistic platform car movement for a jeep like the warthog in Halo!

No cars, I have no idea how to code stuff like that, it would be eliminating a lot of newbs that want to enter.

I like the Joe's cartoon idea.

Steve Zissou: Anne-Marie, do all the interns get Glocks?

Anne-Marie: No, they have to share one.

Yeah, I agree with Shen. It should be "Make the best game you can that features realistic physics." It would be much better than the usual old "Make a game based on this theme..." because it involves the actual design and coding of the game rather than its graphical appearance. It might exclude newbies, but any competition will be weighted towards those with more experience, so why not have one specifically geared towards them for once?

Assuming this is what the competition will be about, just make sure that at least one of the judges knows a thing or two about physics...

yeah, "realistic physics" is a better kind of arena for a comp than "realistic vehicle physics", i agree. oh btw, generally, competitions aren't usually designed for the inexperienced. they're a test for the more experienced members of a group. newer people can still see what's going on and learn a great deal from it, mind.
