56k and proud, plus I can't afford it because unlike alot of folk I know with fast internet, mummy and daddy don't pay for it. I have to fork out the 17 quid a month for AOL and I'm only 16. Ah well, some folk get it easy...

You can get at least 200kbps broadband for that £17.

I have a 2mbit connection from BT btw.

I have a 56k modem but it only connects at a 28,ooo connection...sucks really cause im lucky if I can pull 2.2KB/s on downloads...

My parents are paying about 25 bucks canadian which I think is a rip off for we get only 20 freakin hours of use!?!?!
We live in the country...hmmmmmm.... any way to get a faster connection for cheaper or the same or a litle more price?

If you lived in BC you could get ADSL for $25. I think Alberta and Ontario also have it, but I'm not sure about the other provinces.

Hmm...you might be better off with AOL. Hey, it's slow, but with all those "6 months free" CD's you get, you'll never have to pay for it.

It's mostly in cities I think, but it's also in many small towns(2000-10000 people). How rural are you? Telus probably wouldn't stretch lines out 50km into the middle of nowhere, but you might as well check.

I heared that some people in the states get hundreds of AOL cd's every year. Wouldn't that be nice.

Here we used to get 10 or so a year, but now they've stopped for some reason.

56k, which can be annoying sometimes, especially if some games look good but they're something like 20mb+. Usually downloads at 3-3.5kb/s

My old 56k connection downloaded at 5.4kb/sec. Now I realize I was lucky to get that.

kramy: that's not fair!

anyway, if you live in britain you can blame BT for inflated broadband prices. they refused to modernize the lines before, but now everyone wants broadband they're having to do it, but they don't like to work for a pittance. i heard there's a government inititive to get the whole country ADSLd as we're so behind other european countries when it comes to broadband.

56k with a V.92 modem. It's gone to about 112k once. And it's only about $8 a month.

RapidFlash, that is impossible since the limit on a phone line is 56, going over that is agianst the law and causes static on the line even for people around you.

I get 60kbs on a ADSL line.

RapidFlash: Hmmm...are you sure it's not ISDN? Dual-Channel ISDN(whatever that means ) is 128k, over 10kb/sec.

Pete: Canada has ultra-fast Fibreoptic lines running all across it, unused. What's worse, not having it and wanting it, or having it and not using it?
