C'mon, I'm talking about submitting a couple of bucks. If you really put all of your money into helping others, how did you manage to get access to the net? Are you guys all in your public libraries? Anyway, no one has to put in real cash. Everyone starts with 5 of whatever currency you like.

I find both good and bad sides about this idea Jon.
To take a good point. Such a reward system would show much better who contributes to the community (as opposed to the "participation rating" we got now). Members who help out in any way will be rewarded, great.
Bad point. Dont bring real money into this. Thats a very bad idea. Especially younger members would have trouble paying, also supporting paymethods world wide *could* be a problem. And it should NEVER cost you money to get help in a community site like this. REALLY REALLY bad idea.
Good point. A reward system like this forces members to help others in order to be able to get help themselves. Generally that would generate more help.
Bad point. Forcing someone to do something is in the long run more damaging than it helps. Is it not fair to help others to get help yourself? Absolutely, but if you are forced to do it, you either do a bad job, or you stay away (dont get help). The second prolem. Abuse. Such a system would most likely be abused. When is the money rewarded? When the job is done? There will always be people to abuse a system. They could claim you did a bad job and will not pay you. Who will decide a dispute? Admins? That means more work to them ... and they dont want more work ... Just look how members behave in the boards.
Good point. Money could be rewards in contests or the GOTW etc.
I have not yet made up my mind about if I support this or not ...

I am not dissing it for the purpose of dissing... I'm dissing it because it's a crappy idea, and I don't like it. Jon Chambers doesn't exactly suger coat his attitude toward me, so I will extend him the same curtesy. So shut your pie hole, Eviniscrotum!

good post cybermaze... i think the conclusion that can be drawn is that this system would not be popular enough or worthwhile enough to the site to consider implementing it. whilst i disagree perhaps with cyber's wording - "forcing people" is perhaps to strong a way to put it - i really don't like how it could make people feel obliged to help others, almost against their will, and that more helpful people get recognised. which isn't really the point of this site, to be frank... people who are more SKILLED should get recognised. ashman may be a big hairy tit, but he does make some good games, and that is why he's more "famous". and a system like this could very easily become abused, as cyber says, and i don't want to spend my life solving disputes over imaginery money.
that's no reason, however, to bash jon for putting forward his ideas. it's a nice concept but i think we can safely say it's a flawed one.
